Can someone explain how Skype is being kept alive while Teams does the same thing? Phone number routing, calling into meetings by phone, video conferencing, etc

It just seems silly not to merge the two into one bloated piece of shit that triggers people to find alternatives

They kind of did. They retired Skype for Business in 2021 and moved everyone to Teams.

The rest of the 2 people that still use it doesn't really matter.
