I'm just worried since Wiggle's statements are all over the place now. First he wants to talk to the other instances, then he says "fuck em", which he should have from the beginning, then he turns around and wants to bend the knee to their censorship again?
Is Wiggle still fit to be an admin of this instance?
None of this is easy.
Nobody is going to make perfect decisions 100% of the time.
But @[email protected] is 100% heart and he is putting a lot of effort into making Exploding Heads successful.
We have steered a pretty consistent course for over a year now. We are just learning how to deal with bots and trolls taking away from others enjoyment of Exploding Heads.
We are not bending the knee.
We will not be allowed to play well with the reddit transplants. They want a space as "curated" (or even more extremely) than what they left. If this place isn't full of left-thing and virtue signalling they're always going to call us Nazis in the end.
So the best would be to try and gather all the normal "right" wing, libertarians, hippies and so on. Everyone who thinks free speech is important and for good reason. Honestly our group is vastly larger than theirs, it's just more splintered and have plenty who aren't yet internet savvy. And probably a lot have internalised self censorship.

Sounds like bending the knee to me. Changing the content of this instance to appease other instances is not the right move to make. They made threats to us, so you gave into them. We shouldn't care if other instances defederate from us, if they do they aren't the types of instances I would want to use anyway.
So what would you propose
I mean it really depends on what you mean by controversial. If you are saying that I can't say things like "vaccines cause injuries" or make comments making fun of removed outside of those communities, I'd say that rule is really stupid as a concept. If you mean general trolling, I don't really have a problem with it.

Can you add noholdsbarred (the only thing I'm modding) to that list of "anything goes". I miss the old days on sherdog where we had off topic where people could do call outs and insult each other. Childish, sure, but sometimes it's fun to just vent and test your "ownage" skill against someone.
It also sucks to have to have the kid gloves on constantly. I was hoping that would be more lax here but already we've got at least one person whining about insults.
EDIT: Oh and I mean good fun stuff, not racist crap. There are a near infinite amount of things you can insult someone over, no reason to ever bring race into it.

We have no power over other sites in respect of defederation or refederation. They will do what they do - it is up to us to be the best we can be regardless.

If not, let's cross each bridge as we come to it.
Refederation should not be a goal. It cannot be done without unacceptable compromise. We would be better served to find other instances that are pro-free speech and federate with them. If they really believe in free speech they'll be getting kicked off the big instances too.

The only thing that will happen is that you are going to keep attracting more and more of the same or worse people.
There are plenty of instances with normal content that provide users with everything they are looking for without having to deal with posts you can find on dankmemes and freeform.
You are filling such a small niche that there aren't even going to be other instances you can link up to with the same "values" they will just gravitate to this one.
So where is the problem? I already have 17 accounts distributed over multiple instances. With the Mlem App I can switch with a simple click. There are tons of instances still federated with a minority of other instances, while still not making use of Email registration.
The feddiverse is flexible. And we are not blind to karma or other corporate jokes.
Here we are free. And so are you. It seems like you also have a place here.
I didn't cover "a problem" I laid out how it is and how it's going to be. Admins and some others on here seem to have some kind of hope about federating with the big instances again. But that is never going to happen.

You can maybe imagine that, but I limit my entire social media to half an hour every few days. Pop in, respond to comments, then post in a few threads and off again.
What a great contribution you are to the site. I guess you're right, we should get rid of everything you might even slightly consider "hate" so that we can have more contributors of your quality.
