I've tried Jerboa and Connect. They are ok, but there are features I'd like.

Biggest feature is account backup and transfer. If I switch Lemmy instances, I don't want to have to sub and block all the same channels and people. Heck, maybe keep two accounts always in sync, just in case my initial instance goes down.

Instance blocking. Basically individual defederation by hiding posts and users in the client.

Blocking all subs of a name regardless of instance. If I don't want to see a sub about Foo on one instance, I probably don't want it anywhere.

Keyword blocking. There are public figures I am tired of. Don't need to see any post about them. (Connect actually has this, although I haven't tested it yet).

Really easy channel blocking. Just swipe and it's blocked.

I would love for it to show posts as greyed out after you have viewed them just like sync for reddit. I don't like hiding post as I like to go back some times

Sync for Lemmy is coming soon, and hopefully will have the same options.

How about hide an article like the old sync did so I don't have to see the same top article all the time? Please, pretty please?

Completely agree with this one. Swipe to hide is how I used Sync and it made using the app so much better.

That was actually reddit funtionality

But you can in fact hide posts in lemmy.

Only read posts. I don't want to necessarily hide read posts. If it's interesting I want to keep coming back to it. Also if it's a junk, offensive, triggering, spammy repost I don't want to have to "read" it to make it go away.

A robust cross-instance community search

I'd like to see embedded gifs. I miss scrolling the feed and seeing gifs and short videos play and not having to click to load a different page to view.

I doubt sync could backup a whole account. Lemmy's api would need to be able to do that, which it currently doesnt.

Here's one of multiple issues raised in the lemmy github for user portability: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3057

They may choose to split the issue, as it's about community & user migration, and the former is far more complicated (from what I understand), as explained in paragraph 2 of this comment.

Clients at the very least have a list of all subs. That'd be a minimal but still useful level of migration capability. Blocked subs and users, I don't know.

I just hope it works, all of the apps I've used on Android have been so fucking buggy lol. Idk if it's Lemmy's backend or just poorly developed apps but man lemmy is forcing me to work hard to like it haha.

Not sure what else you'd expect...it's an entirely new thing with a sudden hoard of people clogging the servers. Give it time.

I don't think it's much to ask for an application to do the basic things it promises to do. Also Lemmy has been in development for four years so not really "new."

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

And Lemmy is made by the community. Reddit has a huge development team and a lot of budget.

Reddit wasn't done after a few years either. Lemmy is still very new. I'd say get used to it. We'll get there.
