The difference in speed is the most noticeable when navigating from a thread to the previous lists of threads.
As a user this feels great and I’m wondering if there are technical features implemented specifically for this.

It's probably not one specific thing, just architectural choices that lead to overall improved speed in that area

I can't tell the benefits of one code type for another as it's far from my forte, but kbin is coded from scratch using a different language than lemmy is, so that could have some sway over it in addition to just differences in infrastructure owned/accessible by the people who run the various instances.
