Just made this sectional following the plans from Ana White.

Roughly $900 CAD in materials, $750 of that being the cushions. I used Duvholmen cushions with Jarpon covers from Ikea, accent pillows I found at Home Sense. All 2x4 lumber and I used pocket holes where screws would be visible. Finished with Ready Seal natural cedar.

Quite happy with it overall. It's really comfortable and will last far longer than (and was cheaper than) those plastic weave ones from big box stores.

$750 in pillows????

I had no idea they could be that expensive.

I’m right there with you.

As a guy who doesn’t buy many pillows in life, but has bought some nice curtains, I guess I’m not necessarily surprised.

Oh man, I don't even want to know

Definitely a reality check about pillow prices! Especially with outdoor pillows I imagined that the fabric would be pricey but not $750 pricey.

Seriously! Omg.

Maybe it's the redneck in me, but I think I'd find a way around that.

"Yeah, guys, don't mind the bedbugs. Sharing is caring after all"

I want them to last, so getting both decent quality covers and cushions was key. I've found the cushions on big box plastic sets tend to flatten out pretty quick too, but there were reviews on these mentioning they keep their fluffiness quite well.

Yeah, great call on having nice things that will actually work and last. Just a bit of sticker shock not directed at you. Hope the patio brings you years of joy!

Well the bench looks great, so as long you're happy with the product, all is well

Just a bit of sticker shock, that's all.

All good! I had a bit of it myself when I first started looking.

Yeah I looked around a bit and there were a few cheaper options on amazon and things, but it's difficult to tell the quality on those. I knew I'd get something reasonable from Ikea, that the cushions would actually be more or less the size they claim, they'd be built for the outdoors, and that the covers would fit them perfectly.

Even the alternatives I found weren't a whole lot cheaper. I'm happy with the quality of these at $125/seat.

That looks amazing! I can't believe how expensive pillows are but smart move buying them from IKEA.

Thanks! Yep, looked at a few alternatives but am happy I went with these.

Looks great OP, very clean! Did you angle the backrest at all or is it all square?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The backrest is square, but you don't notice it with the thickness of the cushions. It might be a tad uncomfortable with thinner cushions though. If I were to make it again I'd probably give it a bit of an angle.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah definitely looks comfy with the fluffy cushions. Very nice!

It does look clean. How does a 90 degree back rest feel? Have you sat on it without the cushions?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It's a bit boney without the cushions, but taking them off also makes it deeper, so you're leaning back more. If you were planning on going without cushions I'd probably put two 2x4s across the back at a slight angle, but you'd probably have to reconfigure how they attach to the arms then.

I really like that, it goes super well together!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Looks great! Seems like you had same experience as mine, the cushions were the most expensive part.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yep, seeing yours inspired me to post mine too!
