Beehaw has decided to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. I believe it was already separated from lemmygrad. I think this makes this community the largest one accessible to the most instances whereas before [email protected] was. I guess we'll have to make the most of it!

Why did beehaw defederate?

Beehaw seems to be a very strict instance purely aimed at creating a very bubble-wrapped environment for its users. That's fine, but I fear a lot of "new" people to the fediverse may have signed up there purely because it's popular without really considering or understanding the very specific types of communities some instances attempt to create. Now suddenly there's probably many people on that instance who'll either be wondering why they're seeing less content, or others having to create accounts on more general instances.

Not really criticizing the decision or how Beehaw operates. That's the beauty of the fediverse. I just think this might be confusing and off-putting at this particular moment when Lemmy is receiving a lot of attention from reddit refugees.
