Just a silly shower thought I had after hearing about Nintendo's copyright claim against Russ from Retro Game Corps.

Nintendo hates its fans. They should reap the negative PR. Problem is, way too many corporate simps.

The speedrunning community must a lil shook with the emulation strikes, lately.

I'm hoping that Nintendo's consistently shitty behavior makes the general public realize that stanning for developers is better than stanning for companies

Personally I'd recommend supporting indie devs as they're closer to "locally produced" than triple-A dev entities like Ubisoft, EA, Nintendo

Tbf Devs are usually massive pieces of shit as well, thousands of over-inflated egos, cutthroat techbros and cynical asset-swappers who hate g*mers more than necessary out there for every one decent fella or lady who's autistic about meshes or render pipelines, but prob works for a Chinese online casino optimizing animation timings for whale click-through.

I have to wonder how long they can run on community goodwill. With handhelds like the Steam Deck and similar, surely it's gotta be only a matter of time until they have to change or die.

They won't die. Their largest demographic is prepubescent children. Mommy and Daddy's money isn't going anywhere

I'd argue that they're more likely to morph into a patent troll if they ever do get anywhere close to their death throes.

We might even be witnessing the Genesis of that transformation now.

They have such a deep patent portfolio that they could really fuck with the whole industry.

If the switch 2 has the same lack of success as the Wii u I could see that

Mommy and Daddy are being sued and told to eat shit because of pictures...mommy and daddy won't forget being treated like shit.

Seems it's ramped up a lot since the new CEO took over.

They only reason they don't dispatch terror squads of thugs door to door is because it would be illegal, not even because it would be bad for PR.

"You're not hiding any ROMS under zese floorboards, are you?"

According to the Ryujinx (Switch emulator) Mac M1 branch maintainer, they literally did send people to the home of Ryujinx's lead dev in Brazil.

So we might already be there.

Ask WoTC how they feel about sending thugs to people's doors

I can't believe how many otherwise seemingly reasonable people are still involved in the MTG and D&D content ecosystems after Hasbro hired the fucking Pinkertons to threaten a Youtuber. How little self respect do they have? Promote a game that isn't made by someone who would send thugs to your house!

In fairness, I still play 5e

I haven't given WotC a dime since that fiasco, though.

The last thing I bought from them directly was the R20 integrated Out of the Abyss digital campaign for me to DM with some friends.

We got halfway and it was kinda mid. I tossed a big ass boss fight at them along with the mid-game boss and it felt final enough.

Once it releases in full, we'll be a Cosmere RPG group for a good while.

People simply don't give a fuck. Unless the product isn't mediocre, they could bomb kids as far as they care (unless it appears as a scandal, and they feel morally pushed to move on)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Well, if the stories involving the Japanese yakuza are true, maybe you're a little wrong...

The Bowser headline looks ridiculous if you have no context lol

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

Nintendo are control freaks. They want nothing more than to have their own official "security" guards watching over everyone's shoulder, finger on the trigger of their shotgun, as they make sure you play their games (not your games) in the Nintendo-approved way of playing their games.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

I’m done, folks. Been playing their stuff from the release of the SNES. I can’t support this kind of idiocy.

I'm sorry for this insensitive joke, but MiiTomo was too good.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Nintendo should buy Warner Brothers Discovery

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Nintendo should be burned

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Next step: Nintendo sues all sites that dare write its name

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

If this wipes out poor content sites like Screen Rant and TheGamer I'd be happy. I hate how Google keeps recommending me this crap of content.
