The ESA, which represents several major gaming companies, has shared an updated list of notorious piracy threats with the U.S. Government. One of the notable newcomers is FitGirl-Repacks, which has been a dominant player in the game piracy landscape for years. Meanwhile, ESA's report no longer mentions malware, cryptocurrencies, or Scene release groups, which were previously seen as 'growing trends'.

Nintendo's argument is that their games are art, and being unable to control how they're presented degrades the art. My eyes rolled across the room the first time I heard that.

Wow. So every theatre show of classics like Romeo & Juliet is a degraded experience. I'm not sure Nintendo bosses understand what "art" is.

The site operator is non-responsive to ESA take-down notices and runs a backup version of the site at dodi-repacks.download.

Well, depending on where the website host is located, they may not need to comply. I wasn't aware of the backup site mentioned above, though; maybe Dodi and FitGirl are one and the same? ;-)

EDIT: Grammar.

maybe Dodi and FitGirl are one and the same?

I don’t think so, I specifically use Dodi repacks because they seem to extract better. I find FitGirl repacks can take hours to extract and often crash.

Also, I think they’re talking about dodi-repacks.download being a backup for the main Dodi site, not FitGirl.

Fitgirls packs take forever because she uses an insane conpression ratio. They will typically download faster as a result. But installation can take much longer as a result of the compression.

Fortunately, there is the uncapped ram mode. It longer limits itself on ram so its able to uncompress qnd install much more quickly in beefier conputers

I used to have a data cap and I would sometimes download the Fitgirl version of games I had on Steam simply because they were half the size. 22 gigs vs 60 gigs? Yeah, give me that fitgirl zipped version.

One FitGirl vs a crowd of menacing DMCA men looks like a Kill Bill retake we deserve.

One hopes that Audrey Tatou is available when they produce a film about this

"One of the notable newcomers is FitGirl-Repacks"

Fitgirl's been around over a decade.

they'll catch up to fitgirl in another decade or so, by which time there are going to be five new fitgirls. five dozen?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They mean newcomer to the list. Here's what it says right after your quote: "which has been a dominant player in the game piracy landscape for years"

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

oh, got it.

I almost quoted the whole thing because I was like why would they write "newcomer" and "for years" one after the other?

thanks

From the article, these guys are really clueless about where game cheats get sold, which sucks.

There is a pretty fun metroidvania called The Weird Dream that I only know about because FitGirl repacked it. They don't seem like a threat to me.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

LOL nice, I hope they fear in shiver when hearing the name "FitGirl Repack"

ESA is the European Space Agency. It's a pretty prominent acronym. They really couldn't bother researching it before registering their little butthurt group? Imagine making a corporate group and calling it NASA.

They're the best, they should be the target, and they shouldn't be responding to takedown requests.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

Oh. That is not how it comes off in your original comment

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)
