Somebody was talking about defederating because loli, and, well, here I am.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Just like someone in the last thread, I was on world, saw a post about defederations and how this specific place was a hellscape filled with sin and cunny.

Of course I'd fit in~

I was just looking for a server that wasn't going to choose for me what I can and can't see. Like, I'm an adult. If I don't like it I'm fully capable of doing that myself. I don't need your protection, thanks.

I heard that sh.itjust.works and lemmynsfw defederated from this instance, had to check it out. Stayed because I like it better here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Huh. I found it via the itjust communities list

As I was getting into Lemmy and learning about federation and its ugly sister, defederation, I came across a github page with a large list of instances, along with various points of data for each instance - one of which was number of other instances that have defederated from this one.

Being a proponent of moral relativism, I had to check out the more marginalized communities. Exploding Heads and Lemmygrad weren't for me, but Burggit...

A couple weeks and a few morally repugnant posts later, here I am.

Initially found it through searching for incest communities on lemmynsfw. My initial impression wasn't great, was expecting a bunch of 4chan types and didn't really investigate further. Later on I came back and actually read the rules and decided the place looked okay after all.

Created an account on here specifically because I wanted to make a version of r/incestconfessions (plug) that wouldn't be subject to the tyranny of the credit card companies, who are responsible for a lot of the sanitization that's been imposed on much of the internet over the past decade or so. Not just Reddit, but also places like Fetlife and PornHub.

Hoping to see other kink communities migrate over here too, especially with lemmynsfw going full vanilla. It bothers me that all the mainstream instances have defederated us though. Reduces our visibility and makes it less likely that people who aren't specifically seeking loli stuff will make their way over here. Nothing against people that like loli hentai, I'm just hoping for more breadth of interest.

I was trying to move on from Reddit anyway, so I tried to see if there were any Lemmy instances more accepting of my interests. A quick google search later, and here I am.

I was looking for my first Lemmy instance to call home after the reddit debacle because I wanted access to nsfw content without using Reddit's garbage app.

Initially I went to lemmynsfw so I could make a nsfw community freely in case the type of content I wanted (wink wink c/armpits nudge nudge) didn't exist already. Then I realized they were really restrictive with content so I searched for an instance (literally googled nsfw Lemmy instance lol) that actually allowed freedom with nsfw content and here we are. I'm happy here with my little niche.

I was trying to figure out which lemmy instance to call home and browsed the instances list on lemmy.world. I think at the time this was the sole defederated instance and I had to see why lol

r/Touhou_NSFW directed me to this after the Reddit Blackout.

Burggit..? What's that? It sounds like a ripoff of Reddit..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, this isn't my local Burger shop? I must be in the wrong place!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Shouldn't you be on wafflit?

Speaking of defederations, I still think my "business in the front, party in the back" idea has some merit. I'd originally suggested it as a SFW version of burggit that's federated with the original.

After thinking about it some more, I think it'd be better if someone were to spin up a new, otherwise unaffiliated generalist instance. It'd have a mainstream content policy in order to appeal to fleeing redditors, but a liberal federation policy. Basically just "make sure your users obey our rules when on our communities, and we'll remain federated with you". It'd probably still have to defederate exploding-heads, since they're unlikely to actually behave, but no big loss there. We just need something to buck the trend of arbitrary defederations, and lay out explicit, reasonable, objective criteria for federation.

Does anyone here have the expertise to take on such a project, and potentially scale it up? I'm not in a position to do so, but I'd love to help out.

So basically a middleman instance with access to both? I like that idea a bit.

I just don't know how feasible it would be.

I can already see the posts "X is federated with Y! Defederate against them too or you we'll say you support child rape!'

Or even "X is a front instance for pedophiles!"

What's the defence against that?

It might just be better to have alts IMO.

That was the original idea, a SFW burggit.social that federates with burggit.moe. Now I'm more thinking that the threadiverse in general will have its growth stunted if puritans remain in control. The internet is for porn, after all. Eventually most instances should be ones with well-defined, liberal federation policies, while those with more restrictive or arbitrary federation will be relegated to the sidelines. One such instance is needed to get this process started though, and the sooner the better.

I can already see the posts "X is federated with Y! Defederate against them too or you we’ll say you support child rape!’

Eh, they can try, but I don't think they'll get much traction. There haven't been any calls to defederate fmhy or vlemmy AFAIK. Users on the other current big instances aren't going to see any burggit content anyway, so they don't need to care. Admins of those instances likewise don't need to care, as the content isn't touching their servers and causing possible jurisdictional legal issues for them. If you take those two cards away from the puritans, they lose a lot of power.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh. There's no need to make a new one, there's plenty of those. Just make an account with any of the instances we are still federated with. If you are lucky, you'll find one where the admin is just - absent.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm suggesting it more for the general health of the threadiverse and as a way to keep burggit from being isolated, rather than for my own personal convenience. Something to counter the current puritan populist trend.

Of the top 10, the only instances that haven't defederated us are lemmy.fmhy.ml, vlemmy.net, and programming.dev. I'm assuming that programming.dev is a fluke, and will defederate us as soon as they notice us. How do we know that fmhy and vlemmy won't also defederate? They don't have any specific federation policy posted. And if they won't, are they capable of scaling up?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

fmhy did have this post after beehaw deferated from .world https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/84110
