Reddit (and most social media) is infected by astroturfing. It is about as trustworthy as a random YouTube.
Lemmy isn't a lot better for product reviews but is also unimportant enough that it can generate a shortlist.
Not really. For Reddit you normally get a lot of comments on a product review and you can pick out a lot of valuable information. Most of the blogs are just one opinion. Lemmy still has a limited audience so few view points but it is getting better.
I guess if you don't believe that there are bots (many paying people to use their "normal" accounts) making false grass roots advertisement on reddit then I don't really know what to tell you.
It wasn't just consumers who decided adding "reddit" to every google search was a good idea.
