Just block the communities you don't want to see.
And there may be a few users comments here and there but you can also block users and report them
I am in agreement with your take on the matter, I have history with that instance, and I really don’t like them, but I think that people should just block them if they don’t want to see the bs there
How do you block an instance?
As a user, you can block either people or communities but not whole instances.
If you are an admin running an instance, you can do it through the admin settings.
You as an individual blocking their communities and users you do not wish to see is the best bet.
I want to avoid defederation where ever possible.
