Does anyone here play a 7 wood? If so, what shots do you use it for? What kind do you have? How far do you hit it? Do you also play a 4 iron?

Tell me everything!

So, I ended up getting a 4 hybrid and i love it! I went to pga super store and hit both it and 7 wood and liked the consistency of the 4 hybrid a little better. I'm glad i made this decision because i can hit it right at 200 out of the rough, and upwards of 210 off the fairway.

Thanks for the tips all!

My 7W is probably the best investment I’ve made to my game, especially as I got older. I had a 4 hybrid that goes about the same distance (200 yards), but I had an awful tendency pull-hook it. Admittedly that’s more me than the club’s fault, but I noticed the hybrid is easier to draw and exacerbates my hooks.

The 7W benefits (for me) are higher peak height and steeper descent angle to hold greens better, certainly higher than both my iron and hybrid. I use it everywhere - tee to fairway to rough.

I’m fortunate to have a Tom Wishon trained club fitter in Singapore, and I had him build my 3/5/7 woods using the Wishon 929HS head - the shallow face helps with the firmer fairway conditions here. The 7W is on a Fujikura Vista Pro 65S shaft, but I’m about to swap that out for a Motore X F3 6S as that allows me to swing a little more aggressively. The 929HS/Vista Pro combo was budget friendly, and allowed me to try out a 7W without breaking the bank.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the follow up and detailed info! Great stuff on 7w vs hybrid.

I had a 21° hybrid and I just could not find any consistency with it so I picked up a 7 wood and I absolutely love it. It’s my 195-205 club and what I like about it is how high it flies and how softly it lands on the green, practically no rollout. I do also have a 4 iron, but I only usually swap that in then the conditions get too windy for a high ball flight.

I play a 4 hybrid so it's wood-like. I used to carry a 5 wood but I hit it and my 3 hybrid about the same distance and the hybrid is a lot more consistent to hit.

My dad plays a 4/5 hybrid and a 6/7 iron that he just hits harder or softer depending on distance.

I have a buddy that plays a 7 wood and he says he pretty much only uses it if he hits a bad drive on a par 4 or a great drive on a par 5. He starts his irons at 6 though and also carries a 3 wood and an extra wedge.

My thought is it would be easier to hit out of thick rough vs a 3 or 4 hybrid because it's more lofty. What do you think?
