Anyone can look at my youtube and know exactly what my current fixation is. It's also annoying and makes it really hard to pull myself out of it. It's like a hyperfixation amplifier.

Thankfully you can stop it. Go to your watch history and remove videos that are messing up your recommendations.

BUT THERE'S HUNDREDS. It is apparently who I am now. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I now am nothing but a 3d printing enthusiast.

Yeah, the issue is mostly that i watch so much of specific thing that it would be a hassle to delete all the videos from the history

Oof. Yeah I've been there, I finally said enough was enough after a certain NSFW monkey video destroyed my homepage years ago.

Now I keep on top of my watch history and my recomendations are much better.

We have algorithm-destroying superpowers. Targeted ads? Hah, that was last month's hyperfixation, too late suckers!!

But yeah it's a bit more annoying with YouTube.

Yeah this happens to me a lot.

If you don't want to get sucked into Youtube anymore then I recommend Unhook. It's a firefox and Chrome (i think) extension which let's you disable video recommendations in any form and redirects you from the start or trending page to your sub feed. So you only ever see videos you subscribed to if you want that. It's highly customizable too.

I combine this with hiding all shorts. That way I am more on control of how long I'll be on YouTube which is nice.

Yes and I end up deleting the watch history, I only like videos that will help the algorithm, after a few videos it all goes back to normal

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Have you tried clicking on the not interested button? Doing it for a few videos may help

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah this is annoying. If you are quick you can delete all the latest videos in watch history to stop the recommendations. Otherwise if you want to start the algo from scratch, create a new "channel" in the same login which will have a fresh history. I have 3 different channels I switch through depending on mood.

Yes!! My YouTube page will turn into all educational videos which is great…but sometimes I wanna turn my brain of and giggle for a bit

My YouTube recommendations have been complete shit for months now, idk what to do

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

When my recommendations get bad I just go through my feed and click "not interesting" on everything that I don't like. Takes some effort but then my feed gets better.

well its nice to see that im not the only one. something that tends to straighten it out a bit is when i put a bunch of videos in my save to watch later list or pick a channel that i can enjoy as background noise and let it run through a few of their videos

I don't really use youtube anymore, I use newpipe, so I don't really have all the suggestions. It's been really helpful!

Both my roommate and I use my YouTube account on our TV, it's a mess.

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago and when I did he basically went "Well shit, I should probably get tested"

I agree though it's definitely a hyper fixation amplifier.
