My heart goes out to you. The climate extremes are going to make that even worse. The only comfort i get is when the head of Security for the rich in their bunkers they have built to ride out social collapse. Tosses them out on their ass and take over the bunker. I think in the show it was an 8-track tape but I have a shitty memory and only watched it once.
If you don't count any system that is predicated on the degree of exploited labor (underpaid/overworked, child labor, and slavery) Then yeah, a functioning economic system hasn't ever been seen in U.S. history... not really compatible as there will always be exploited labor under capitalism.
