Hi there, I've been trying to get 2FA to work on my account for awhile now, and regardless of browser I use (firefox, chrome, edge) I can not get 2FA to work. I tick the box for 2FA, scroll down, but there is no 2FA box to continue going forward with it, so I just have to untick it. I've tried on various browsers, on my PC and my phone. Neither have worked.

I like having 2FA on, so instead I was going to delete my account - however, even that does not work. I type in my password, and I get a loading icon.. and then nothing. Page scrolls up, but it does not delete my account.

Anything I can do to get either of these to work? Thank you.

Had the same problem: when you tick the box nothing happens. Tried a few times and nothing so I stopped trying.

Something must have happened anyway, because last time I logout it asked me my 2FA to login again.

Guess what? I have a new account now.

Same thing happened to me, but I had another tab open where I was already logged in, so I could turn it off.

Apparently clicking "Forgot password" bypasses the 2FA.

Overall the implementation is awful. No backup codes either.

100% agree with you. I got 2FA working on lemmy.world but I had issues. I enabled 2FA on the website and nothing happen. Then I refreshed the page and then got the instructions on the bottom. I immediately clicked it and followed it. I had tried about 5 times in the past almost locking myself out one time.

I also can't believe there is no backup code either.

It almost feels kind of pointless in some ways, considering you can bypass it by clicking "forgot password" I'm glad it's there in the sense that it is broken, and it seems like a few people have needed it when trying to enable 2FA - however, if your email account is compromised and they can see you have a lemmy account, then it would be easy for them to hijack your lemmy account by clicking forget password.

Really hope they fix it soon.

Pretty sure these types of issues are caused by lag on your home instance. Hosting my own small instance I had no issues enabling 2FA. Maybe try again off peak hours.

One issue I do have is that I am unable to log out without clearing browser cache.

I've been trying for about two weeks now. I'm Australian so I'm usually online when most people are off-line as well.

I also tried to activate 2FA, but hit some problems:

  1. The link is useless, I'm not installing some obscure app that can open that type of protocol, the big apps refuse to open such links for a reason.
  2. I tried out some online QR generator from the link and the resulting codes were useless. I tried two different secrets, several times. I don't think that the QR generator is the problem.
  3. I tried to manually create an authenticator entry, but it didn't work and I'm not trying out all the unspecified fields like some weird brute force test.

I like having 2FA on, so instead I was going to delete my account - however, even that does not work. I type in my password, and I get a loading icon… and then nothing. Page scrolls up, but it does not delete my account.

Errors are not showing at all. I have to check the Network tab in the developer tools to see what the API is returning...

That's incredibly odd. I have to say I've never had such issues trying to get 2FA working before.

I've also never been able to not delete my account. But yeah, no error code or anything. It just resets the password box.

Check the Network tab for your request (xhr). The error should be there.
