I know they’re probably joking, but the Steam forums are so generally unhinged that I wouldn’t be surprised if this person is serious.

[–] [email protected] 86 points 11 months ago

Steam is full of corporate bootlickers it’s unreal 💀

"and how can they say they pirates when have no boats???"

[–] [email protected] 84 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I'm more of a cracked Denuvo = no play kind of person because Empress is cooked & I don't wanna feed their ego

[–] [email protected] 81 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I get the FitGirl repacks of Empress cracks because:

  1. Trans girl pirates are way cooler than transphobe pirates.
  2. Empress fucking hates it.
[–] [email protected] 41 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Plenty of people claim fitgirl is trans, but I don't think she's ever said she is herself

[–] [email protected] 29 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Huh. It would make sense that Empress completely made it up. Transphobes aren’t exactly smart, plenty have called cis women trans IRL before. I’ll be honest, I read this tweet and believed it: https://x.com/furmerly/status/1658138307769802752

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

my fave is when they e.g. tell a trans man "you'll never be a woman!", it must be so viciously validating to have someone who hates your existence be unable to tell that you were assigned a different gender at birth

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

had no clue that fitgirl wasnt cis lmao

[–] [email protected] 23 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Always figured it was just an online persona, not an actual individual person.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

All her posts on her website are in first person. Would sure be a huge commitment to a bit. Also:

Tbh denuvo is so devious I think it just does that to your brain.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Who the hell is Empress? O.o

[–] [email protected] 29 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Person who cracked Denuvo. They seem pretty crazy.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 11 months ago

Calling oneself Empress or Emperor usually does imply that, I guess

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago

You need to be crazy to crack denuvo. It is a requirement because the software is also crazy.

[–] [email protected] 79 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Arrggh, you can pay and sail the high seas too.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pay and then install the pirated version to play without the overhead of garbage DRM.

No one makes demos for their games anymore. I’m not gambling on whether I’m gonna like a game with the cost of AAA titles these days. Piracy is amazingly handy for that.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 11 months ago

I've been calling my pirated stuff "Extended Demos"/"Extended Trailers" for ages now.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That is the number 1 reason for me too. Although steam solves this problem partially with their return policy. But I don't want to pay the price upfront everytime, so I resolve to piracy until I know if I want to buy the game.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'd almost agree. Steam is great with it's return policy, but only really by comparison. The 14 days is definitely plenty of time, but 2h is not a lot for quite a few, and especially the expensive, games.

I've done this with games I've purchased physical discs for but are a pain to install on Windows 10. I was able to find a pirate site that had lightly modified games to help work on modern systems.

"Piracy is not a service problem and can only be curbed by utilising SecuRom and denuvo drm. This also will make the game less compatible in the future so that people will also buy your remasters."

Something along those lines it was?

[–] [email protected] 36 points 11 months ago (12 children)

I agree that you shouldn't go pirating small indie titles because independent artists becoming more financially successful is the object of the exercise. But a triple-A title is free game to me.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 11 months ago

"BuT THe DEVeLoplErs WoN"t GEt PaID" They weren't getting paid before, it just steals from the billionaire CEO

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

The only games I've ever pirated are the ones that have denuvo DRM ironically, lol.

Games are cheap to buy if they are good and worthwhile.

It's when the studios try and bait and switch us that I have a problem, or purposefully slow down and punish paying customers because they are disabled by the fear of a few pirates by adding worthless DRM.

I am certain there is not a single Denuvo game that the DRM actually caused them to make more money than simply launching without it..

People in the industry are being taken for a ride...

Buying a game on steam gives you achievements cloud saves easier proton integration and the ability to play online

[–] [email protected] 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Also the ease of use, automatic game updates, and supporting game development.

DRM makes me not want to support the game development.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sometimes id rather use a cracked version of a game even if i own it, just so i dont have to deal with ubisoft's, and EA's horrible launchers. Unless the game gets actively updated or has multiplayer.

If I love a game enough, I am eager to support the devs. I also know that buying an AAA game doesn't support the devs, it supports people like Bobby Kotick and Randy Pitchford.

So when it comes to AAA games, either I pirate the game, or...

... in more recent years, I don't pirate the game.

If I could download a car, I absolutely would.

This was always a funny warning.

Imagine thinking Denovo worked...

Maybe a stupid boomer executive working at a game studio...

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

it's only acceptable and morally right to get hogwarts legacy on the high seas
