I guess if anyone was to set a good example and built well designed, long lasting, eco friendly, publicly owned homes that put pressure on the private market they'd get in trouble from their developer/construction/investor/banker mates?
i can, only if i have the capital to start building houses /s

When this was done, the authorities knew that the private housing market was going to suffer and they went ahead anyways. With continuous modernization most of these are still in use today.
How did architecture take such a sharp turn for the worse. Those buildings have charm and style.
