I've seen a lot of posts about how to watch new and old movies and shows for free. This is for you, guys!

Stremio and Cloudstream offer cord-cutters a way to stream movies, TV shows, and web series for free, they do so by aggregating pirated content, making them alternatives to mainstream paid streaming services.

You can get all your entertainment in one place, like Netflix.

The king and his men stole the queen from her bed

And bound her in her bones

The seas be ours and by the powers

Where we will, we'll roam

Yo-ho, all together

Hoist the colors high

Heave ho, thieves and beggars

Never shall we die

Is this an ad?

If you guys want to go a step further and setup your own media server, I suggest you take a look at this. https://trash-guides.info/

I've seen the vlc addon that can play torrents but doesn't that kill them? You're not seeding anything by just streaming and leaving when the movie is over. Idk, seems like a shitty thing to do

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

@sneezy Yeah this is entirely reliant on the idea that you're only streaming from torrents that have enough seeders that you won't kill the network.

Classic tragedy of the commons, and definitely a shitty thing to do.

Stremio with real debrid is great, like Kodi but without the hefty UI. I ended up going to jellyfin with the arr stack on a 14tb external and loving it so far. Will eventually go to an actual NAS but a nice way to get your feet wet

I use Kodi with a subscription to Real Debrid. Are these options better?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do you use it on Kodi? I've just configured it two ways. With Stremio and Yatse I can play from Stremio to Kodi via Yatse. I've also installed Seren on Kodi. I prefer the UI of Stremio though.

With the Fen add-on linked with Trakt.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Looks pretty similar to Seren I believe. It's working fine, but I believe the UI of Stremio is more "noob" friendly.

I'll check it out. Kodi definitely does take some nerdy configuration. BTW Fen is much faster than Seren, give it a try.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Another second for Fen, switched to it a few months ago and it's been a smoother experience

If your kodi is working you're not missing much. But debrid is pretty unsatisfactory depending on your needs. Just does not compare to usenet or private trackers.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Unsatisfactory for what? The only things I can't find on RD are occasional really old or foreign films/shows. Even then there's usually at least a 480p version if I'm really desperate. I have considered switching to Usenet before but it seemed super complicated.

That article mentions "Torrentio" as an add on for Stremio. I don't see that. There are 2 other "torrent" named add ons.

You know if those are safe? They work?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You have to google torrentio. It's not in the list in stremio obviously

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Ok. Ty. I guess I misread. Thought it said both those add ons were from the side menu.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, they are safe. Just click the torrentio its an hyperlink.

I just started using torrentio with real debrid. It works really well. I'm new to this since my computer broke and it will take time to build another one. So I was kinda stuck without Plex.

I will say that I love it but I still pay for real debrid. It can replace the last of my streaming but if anyone knows a better way to use torrentio, I would be happy to hear it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This is the method I've been using for a while now but since I joined Lemmy and got exposed to more technical things I've heard a lot about jellyfish/Plex combined with other stuff like Dockers and nextcloud (I think), to craft their own self hosted stuff. I wanna try that out.

I'm just barely getting into IT myself so this got my interest, is there any guide or site that explains how to get started on this? I'm also looking to learn more about trackers since I just know the basics of torrent.

This helped me tremendously when I was setting it up. https://trash-guides.info/

Thanks for the tip!

Plex is great. Started mine during the pandemic and I keep having to buy new hard drives.

great alternative, is there an addon for stremio that includes tennis live streaming options that anyone is aware of?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

thanks, there are several options that actually have the tennis channel as well as other options, turns out had the same issue with the two major addon suggestions and had to go back and click on the links and install from their respecting webpages.
