I'm looking for an Android app that allows my household to easily share and edit a grocery/pantry list. It would be great if the app could:

  • Allow multiple people to view and edit grocery and pantry lists
  • Automatically add items to the grocery list when they drop below a set minimum quantity in the pantry list
  • Send notifications when the list is updated by someone
  • Allow users to add expiration dates for fridge/pantry items, and provide reminders when items are close to expiring

Some other useful features would be:

  • Barcode scanning to quickly add items
  • Categorization for where items are stored (pantry, fridge, freezer etc)

Does an app like this exist for Android? I haven't been able to find one that has all the functions I'm looking for. If you know of one, please let me know! Or if there are any that come close I'd love to check them out. Making grocery lists and keeping the kitchen stocked feels like a constant chore, so anything to make it smoother would be great.

Previously I used a Matrix group chat and currently I'm using Our Groceries Shopping List.

Nice one, but I wish Ukraine existed there as a region. Alas.

I like Our Groceries. It's not 100% free but it's really good. It doesn't do all of those things but it's still worth checking out.

That's the one I'm currently using.

My family has been using our groceries for years, if you're currently useing it and want something new, what is it you are unsatisfied with.

It only has a shopping list, I'm looking for the features I mentioned above.

If you're comfortable with self-hosting you might want to have a look at Grocy: https://grocy.info/

Also supports barcode scanning via https://github.com/Forceu/barcodebuddy, although I'm a bit confused.. The official android app claims to support barcode scanning: https://github.com/patzly/grocy-android

I don't know if you've already looked but this site is my favourite for this kind of question.

Has the ability to filter by licence and platform too. https://alternativeto.net/software/ourgroceries/

I've been using https://www.outofmilk.com/ It's super simple and can sync with other people.

We’re sorry, it doesn’t look like you’re in our service area. Out of Milk is only supported in the USA and Canada.

oh, well.

I used OutOfMilk for a while but eventually switched to Listonic for reasons I don't remember. Doesn't have all the features you're looking for though 🤷

I keep it simple and just use a shared caldav list. Works on any client that can speak it. It's not specific to grocery, but I've found that amount of intricacy less efficient anyway.
