It's basically happening with all ink printers, HP is just the worst offender. Laser printers gotten cheap enough that even if you print 2 pages per year, it will be cheaper than paying to ink cartel.
Laser is hands-down the way to go. I print a few pages a month TOPS. I'm still on the starter cartridges I got with the printer some 3 years ago, lol. Black is down to 1/4, yellow just over 1/2, and cyan/magenta still showing full. I rarely print in color though. May finally have to swap out the black this year with tax crap. My taxes have turned into a mess...
As far as i know, not with Brother... At least not yet.

The less you print, lasers are cheaper. Inkjets dry out if not used. Laser printers don’t.
Yes, but actual printer costs more, ink printers are going for 10-20$ these days since they make money from ink. But they pay for themselves over time, since a few ink changes will cover the cost of them.
And as we have learned, even if convicted to pay some fines, they're paid off with a few hours of revenue. :D
