The removed hackers will inevitability get access to the data of exploding heads one day, and when they get your IP and general location, how will that effect you?

I use Tor btw

No. All the troons that might hurt me are either in America or on Reddit. I live in Bulgaria, which is very conservative country and most people on here don't know what Reddit is. The small amount of troons that are in my city are 14-19 yo biological females who want to feel edgy.

IP only shows the city you are in. It doesn't show you the exact location. The biggest thing I should worry about is my internet going down because someone is ddosing me

from my experience it doesn't even show the correct city

Yeah, geo location is shit. The bigger danger is if you doing something illegal (where they can find ip owner by subpoena your ISP)...

or if they somehow found that same info illegally (imagining they'd have to be able to also hack your ISP's records but I don't know shit about hacking/doxxing so no clue really)

TBF, there's probably a lot of troons in Canada and UK also and I imagine a lot of them on beecuck and other lemmys too.

I grew up in rural America in the 80s and 90s. Not familiar with the culture or language over there but from what you said, Bulgaria sounds pretty based and awesome to me.

There are trains everywhere in this day and age. You cannot go anywhere without them. There is even one in my school. The ones that will want to doxx me wouldn't want to travel the whole continent to say something to me in a language that they don't even understand.

Not to sound too patriotic but I think we are the most conservative nations in the western world.

Let them come!! They better not forget who they're trying to mess with!

I always use a no-log VPN and did not register with an email, but even if I had, it would have been with an email completely disconnected from me that I set up from VPN. I sometimes use Tor as well but actually hadn't realized that there was an onion address for EH... mind sharing?

Anyway, I guess if they somehow did get my ip and were able to successfully doxx me that it would suck... obviously with all the transmisic and anti-lib stuff I post and comment, they'd probably try to cancel me. But fuck 'em. People have been doxxed before and life goes on. I think 60-70% of my IRL friends already know I'm pretty anti-trans and the last 30-40%... well, it'd honestly be kinda refreshing to come clean, even if they puss out and get all offended and don't wanna be friends anymore. The work aspect would be slightly more annoying but like I said, people have been doxxed before and they survive. TBH, if that happened, I'd probably specifically seek out employment with a more right-wing place, maybe see if I could work for Trump or DeSantis campaign staff or something idk, but I'd figure it out. I'm not afraid.

Funny part to me tho is that, so far, besides my actual comments, like 99.99% of my shitposts are reposted memes (I have literally thousands of based memes I've collected lol). Maybe someday I'll get around to actual OC memes too but rn, I've barely even made a dent in the collection

Unfortunately, no .onion for EH. just using the tor browser on the normal site. And yeah honestly fuck it, just be careful when clicking links, because they can put trackers in the redirect to find your ip

No worries. That would have been awesome though. But then again, now that I think about, I can't really recall any lemmy instances on onion, so maybe it's not compatible? Otherwise, if I'm wrong, maybe we should suggest doing something like rumble (I think?) where you can access from either https address or onion address.

Agreed. On PC, I only access on VPN (have it configured to deny Internet if VPN connection goes down unless user manually overrides) and I use private Firefox 99% of the time and use hardened settings + privacy add-ons.

Mobile, I also use VPN + kiwi (chromium-based and add-on support so I do some privacy add-ons like Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, ClearURLs, etc) and just clear browsing history here and there.

Pretty based set up my man

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think way back in the time I remember reading somewhere that lemmy wouldn't work over tor because of something with the routing. I don't actually remember the reason but it was something along those lines.

Works all good for me 👌

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I am talking about hosting it with .onion domain. Access trough tor is the same as access trough clear net on the backend

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can use temp email services with Lemmy fine

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Good to know. I haven't bothered with many of the other lemmy instances. There were a couple that I got in before the email requirements but TBH I wouldn't be surprised if they banned me (used the @ihatetroons name on at least one of them lol)

But even if they didn't, haven't seen anything on there that makes me think they any better than Reddit... Same censorship (sometimes MORE censorship like with beecuck), same whiny bitches, just different masters... Only with a lot less people to crowdsource answers/opinions/etc.

If I'm going to take the population hit, they need to offer something unique like EH does with free speech or why would I bother.

My boss literally would not care if he saw the content that I put out
