The law of nature for humans is survival. If it's too hot or too cold, it triggers our survival response. If we're starving, it triggers our survival response. If we can't move a rock to build a shelter, it triggers our survival response. Dying is the opposite of survival, and so humans are constantly and I mean literally every second of their life, finding ways not to die.
