It's a gift link. You shouldn't hit the paywall while accessing it during the next couple weeks unless you've got a browser issue, have completely disabled javascript, or the likes.

What does a gift link/article mean? I've seen the term used a few times and whilst I can gather that it allows me to read the article for free, I'm not clear on what it means

Some publications let subscribers produce a limited number of special links which give non-subscribers seamless access to paywalled content for a limited time. Exact details vary by publication. For the New York Times, subscribers can generate 10 per month, and they let an unlimited number of people use the link for 30 days after it is generated.

The upside is that you can scrape links like this one off social media and reshare them so lots of people can access easily

Oh, that's pretty cool to learn about, thanks! Being a biochemist during COVID was a great way for me to become acutely aware of how large a proportion of what little good journalism we have, is paywalled. No doubt it comes with its own problems, but this whole gift article thing seems like a neat idea to lower the barrier to better information.

Works for me. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, of all the states, California lacks ample environmental regulation. Here's hoping they can get that regulated by bumping up the income tax just a bit!

More like the people responsible weren't looking for this and weren't prepared to prevent it.
