My account here is 4 years old. I was so excited to learn about Lemmy back then, but the user base was painfully low. I'm getting that same excitement I had back then.
Please new people, make this your permanent home and forget Reddit!

Forgeddit
I'm definitely considering taking up permanent residence
we are come that you may have engagement, and have engagement more abundantly. - lemmy jesus
And the Reddit blackout hasn't even started yet. Gonna be interesting to see what this place looks like a week from now. I'm excited!
It's all good I'm still mostly getting 1 upvote, similar to reddit
You're doing your best and that's OK!
Now you got 68 since the community here is awesome. :)
Now 81
What do you mean? Lemmy started last week right? /s
Lemmy! THE HOT NEW REDDIT SENSATION CREEPING THE NATION!
REDDIT WHO!?
EXACTLY!
LEMMY'S GOT TECHIES, IT'S GOT TREKKIES, IT'S GOT MASTODON INTEGRATION AND ISN'T OWNED BY A CORPORATE ENTITY, OR ANY GOVERNMENT! RADICAL!
scrap the current https://join-lemmy.org/ we need a screenshot of this comment up there and nothing else NOW
I joined a year ago and it's crazy, i remember getting excited over 20 upvotes, that AMA and the whole 3rd party fiasco really brought a lot of people here!

I miss the old lemmy from a week ago when i signed up haha, feels like it blew up so much.
Same boat. It's kind of amazing, you can literally watch the userbase grow with popular entries getting more and more general upvotes.
My first comment was the most upvoted comment on a subreddit. I got 19 upvoted.
People are just much more supportive and friendlier here. But I guess because we are in a state now before all the assholes join from reddit...
Maybe it’s just me but Mastodon seems still way friendlier than Twitter, I guess partly to do with the people but also the platform structure that seems to have less incentive to attack people. Hope it’s the same for Lemmy.
Let's get this to 500!
I think we reached 500 already. To 1000!
Yeah, just passed 600...
"I'm doing my part!" is probably the most used meme on Lemmy
Yeah....but I used the doge version!
I'm grateful to see open source softwares blow up online
Yes, I'm very proud of the Reddit community for several times over the years mass-recommending open source and federated options.
It's like a warm, beautiful sunset.
Go Lemmy!
I remember before federation was an implemented feature and there were like 5 instances that couldn't talk with each other. I feel old now.
I remember reddit before even subs when it was just a single page for tech news :(
Hopefully this will increase next week!
I still can’t get my iOS app to let me comment
Oh shit it actually worked, upvotes for all. Sorry for shitting on you mLem!
Wait is there a specific Lemmy person? Because I initially though that this site was some Motorhead fan page that evolved into a reddit alternative lol lol. Im so old.
Nah its named after Lemmy, but not a fan page haha
Where do you track your upvotes? O use jerboa BTW
There's no karma total, lemmy only tracks you individual post/comment vote counts. Break free of the shackles of Karma Addiction!
Top right of comment next to comment age. Besides that, Lemmy does not calculate total karma
I rather like how total karma isn't tracked. I wonder how other people feel though?
It is a good thing, objectively. But at least on Mlem there is kind of an equivalent of the karma in the profile page (comment score and post score), if you miss that. 😎
Some may interact less though if there is no karma; gamification works after all. I guess we’ll see.
It's perfect and I wish Reddit did it ages ago. It's the same as Forums with account levels, it makes you think someone has more input than they actually do, and it opens up the system to people selling accounts or botting accounts to later sell (which is a rampant problem on reddit and there's now anti-bot bots).
Hell, I was surprised when I got 20 on reddit. Specifically once something hit /all your comment never gets read.
