I definitely enjoyed it! Thanks for organizing it and I appreciate all the effort.
Superbowl
For owls that are superb.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was an interesting experiment for sure! 😅
It was fun, a nice thing to look forward to the past couple of days. This was a lot of work for you! I hope it was worth it for you to try something new and innovative, even if it might seem it didn't draw as much attention from those outside the community as Owl of the Year did. I know we appreciate all the effort you put in here.
I think the biggest thing I'm taking away from this between the Pharaoh, the Galapagos SEO, and from previous posts, the Jamaican, is that I had no idea owls are so widespread and so diverse. I never would have figured an owl could live in desert conditions, but there the Pharaoh is.
I certainly appreciate that you guys appreciated it. I saw a good number of regular commenters pop in, which is the most important to me. I find the contributions you guys make to be just as important as what I do. I'd like this group to keep growing of course, but I'd prefer 10 more of you guys that comment to 1000 lurkers. It's no fun when I'm just talking to myself.
I like Pharaoh as a desert camo version of the GHO. Galapagos is way cool too, he's so dark and looks like such a tough guy compared to the glam look of the regular Shorty.
It's very neat to look at the diversity of owls and see their differences and how they've changed to fit openings they've found in the ecosystems over the millennia. With the environment rapidly changing, our local Owls may adapt or we may lose some and gain others as migration patterns or food sources change.
Every day I get a better appreciation for all that they are. They're amazing animals, and I'm glad that I decided to try to fill the gap here but giving you all these stories and pictures.
Thank you for organising this! It was fun, not only for me, but also for my girlfriend and relatives I was visiting over the weekend. None of us care about Superbowl in the slightest bit, but we definitely enjoyed all the owl pictures and choosing which group was better :-)
Good, I tried to make it something everyone could enjoy!
Did anyone have an overall favorite?
No, we weren't even very inetrested in which team is which, we justbalways compared the 2 groups. It was really difficult sometimes...
I just meant a favorite owl. The Buff Fronted seemed very popular, and I really liked the 2 Wood Owls.
Well, barn owl is always stunning. But I also really liked the pharaoh eagle, ural, spotted wood and sooty. And many others also didn't know (and liked, naturally) white faced scops. But the others are great too, and I think I never saw quite a few of them. Unfortunatelly, it's a bit confusing for me, the little I know about various owl species I don't know in English, so it's difficult to connect all information. Besides, English is rather lacking when it comes to naming animals and plants... There is very little system.
Well, the important thing is that you enjoyed them!
Where are you from? We have some French, Norwegians, and we used to have a German or 2, though I don't think I've heard from them in a bit, and I'm sure a few others. I like looking up the names and folklore of the owls across the world and sharing those too. I know I've come across many with different common names due to colonialization and such. I like tying history and culture in with the cool birds. I just like learning in general, so it's fun to have a jumping off point to start learning other topics. We have someone very interested in the Aztec culture as well, and I've learned so many neat things helping them research that as well.
I have to say I'm here for pretty owls, I don't know much about owl folklore. I know some of them are supposed to be bad omens, but that's pretty much it.
you: invest time to entertain us
me: totally helpful upvoting all owls
edit: added linebreak
Good, my goal is for you to like all the owls!
I don't really know why but the first picture of Pel's Fishing Owl did it for me. Total 70s prom picture vibes.
I don't even need to look it up to know which one you're referring too! That one was great! 😆
That's a perfect way to describe it!
