The difference here is star citizen devs are well compensated and given time in lieu

How did you come to this conclusion? IIRC their salaries are below average.

Agreed, but this is Star Citizen, even from a neutral perspective; a pretty sketchy project run by a sketchy organization (CIG).

EDIT: Clarification

Cloud Imperium Games, the developer of Star Citizen, has mandated its developers to work seven days a week to meet deadlines for Citizencon on October 19th.

They are not paying directly. As per the article you can get additional PTO days in the future, albeit only after Squadron 42 is released (whenever that's going to happen) and if you are still with the company.

A pretty sketchy approach.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree.

Played the demo from Next Fest; graphics were really good and unique, gameplay had potential, but felt like it needed more refinement.

Tried this out earlier today, while I haven't played extensively, it's have to say the atmosphere and world-building is excellent.

The game play seems solid too, although I need to progress further.

Random fact. Epic Mickey was developed by Junction Point Studios, founded Warren Spector, who was one of the lead creators of the original Deus Ex.

90s era Maxis, Bullfrog, Black Isle Studios, Troika Games.

JoWood also gets a special mention.

This is a more retro selection.
