They were up by the registers last time I was there.

My racist neighbor has a Kari Lake for Senate bumper sticker. In Washington state, mind you. Wonder how he is going to take this news...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Of course it does. Where did I ever imply it didn't? But just because the dems suck, doesn't mean the GOP isn't far worse, especially the Trump flavor. There are states I can be legally sterilized because I have an X as my gender marker on my ID. That's the kind of shit the trumpers want to do federally. At least with Harris there is a chance for the people to pressure her to do the right thing. With trump that is impossible

If you don't think those things will get substantially worse, and substantially faster under Trump, the you have played yourself

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago (4 children)

OK, I'll bite.

Trump will be worse for marginalized people, trans folks in particular. Harris has a history of supporting LGBTQIA+ rights.

Trump will be worse for Palestine (and has said as much). Harris has at least entertained a cease fire.

Trump, despite the lies that he utters, will make every move to implement Project 2025, which will destroy any semblance of democracy. Harris won't do that.

I am so sick of the bosthsideism bullshit. Just because they are both bad, does not mean one isn't dramatically worse. This election is going to be close, and as shitty as it is, the US is a 2 party system. Third parties do not have a chance with the current electoral system.

If you want that to change, you have start local and work up the chain. Not voting or voting third party is pointless until there is a change in system, and that starts locally.

Molbak's (RIP) had them, McLendon hardware has them, Swanson's has them. I mean garden shops (and probably nurseries now that I think about it), not usually indoor plant shops.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Must be a location thing. All the garden places around here (Seattle) have them most of the time, and my local hardware store has them a lot of the time.

You can get ladybugs from most garden or even some hardware stores. If all else fails, https://www.naturesgoodguys.com/ is a great option

Showed this to my very green thumbed partner. She said sounds like mealy bugs, but the solution is the same as aphids.

Water/alcohol/drop of soap solution

70% isopropal alcohol - 1 part alcohol to 7 parts water, one drop of soap

90% isopropal alcohol - 1 part alcohol to 9 parts water, one drop of soap

Spray a cloth with the solution, then manually wipe down the plant. Spray the plant, but DO NOT put it under a light or in the sun until it is dry as the leaves will burn. Let it dry, then do manual removal of the bugs by wiping it down with the solution every day or every other day. It might take several weeks. Her exact words is that "It takes vigilance."

How long before that happened? I've been running it for several months and have had no issues

recycling plastic to make the filament is also an option.

That can be done, but most libraries or maker spaces will not have the tools/equipment. It is a pretty niche corner of 3d printing and is still either very expensive or very DIY. If it makes a difference, most 3d printing is done with PLA which is commercially compostable.

Another option you might try is your local buy nothing or Craigslist. DVD cases aren't uncommon just yet

Very. I have had to use the terminal for a couple things (VPN and some Switch modding), but 99% of the time it is unnecessary.

It has been so great to see how horrible Vance is as a VP pick. I would hazard a guess that nobody else would say yes to Trump after he was willing to sacrifice Pence.

We went camping for the first time since getting the twin pomskis. They did so good! The fluffier pomski (Bliss) and the little havapoo (Poppy) were in a heated competition for who could bring home more of the forest floor.

It is a very hot weekend here in Seattle, but we got some disc golf in before it was miserable

I am very excited for the 1.0 release! My friends and I are currently playing a multiplayer game in Update 8, and we are so close to finishing all the space elevator parts for the first time.

I don't know if there is enough interest, but is it possible to get a maker community created? Some things like 3d printing don't always quite fit into DIY or Creative.

Ford and GM are probably regretting that switch to NACS...

We finished the last piece of the cat path I posted about earlier! This one goes from the laundry room, to the stairwell, and then into the guest bedroom on the upper floor (yes, I know the carpet needs replaced in that closet). They are already using them and seem to love the new path already.

My partner and I have been talking about making some cat paths in our house since long before we owned our house. We recently got 2 new dogs, so now it is a high priority project. The first step was putting up some shelves in the hallway and making a portal from the hallway to the bedroom closet (you can see it just above the tent). The surround for the portal is this 3D printed tunnel

The next project is going to be putting a portal from the spare bedroom into the stairwell so they can go up and down floors without the dogs being in the way

I am stripping and re-sealing a corner shower stall, and am having a hell of time removing all the old caulk. I also discovered the previous homeowners decided to just caulk over the previous caulk that was on there, so I am removing 2 or 3 layers depending on the location. It was leaking in the spots that had 3 layers so I think they just added more caulk to "fix" leaks. I have the chemical caulk remover, and that certainly helps, but it still is taking a metric fuck-ton of manual labor. Any tricks/suggestions for removal of very old caulk? I am about to throw a scotch brite on a palm sander and go to town.
