... until you finally track down who wrote this mess, and it was you 5 years ago.

The problem is global and started in 2014. Student debt isn't an issue in many countries.

Social media seems like the most obvious one to me, if you look at popularity graphs of the various sites it seems to line up pretty well.

Gen Z and A even have a term for it - "brain rot". If you go down that rabbit hole of memes, it becomes obvious there's a lot of self-doubt, confusion and angst among that generation, with weirdo influencers impacting their thinking in fairly deep ways.

The older I get, the more I question the value of public companies vs the damage they do. As soon as you've got shareholders at large to please, you're incentivized to keep your share price going up above all else, especially in the short term. Global stock markets seemed like a great idea at the time, but I feel they're doing more damage than good at this end of capitalism.

I feel like they're going to get into legal trouble with that name and logo.

Everyone loves the free market until it works against them.

I love the satisfaction when something goes wrong on a ride and you're prepared for it. I came off my bike a few months ago and scraped up my elbow pretty bad. Despite the mild concussion I remember being quite excited to be able to patch myself up in the field, hahaha.

The accompanying photo is on brand.

Is it? I skimmed the GitHub source code and couldn't see anything involving encryption, but it's totally possible I missed something. Perhaps just accessing the database from python is enough to decrypt it.

This legit feels like a scene from Idiocracy. "We tried giving the plants Brawndo... it's the thirst mutilator!"

Just don't package them like every other sensible country on Earth.

Wow, it's pretty wild they didn't even attempt to encrypt or protect this data, even if it is local to your machine. What a treasure trove for malware to sift through.

You have to chuckle at the 13% of humans who took the time to write in against a human rights act.

Ok I'll admit, the first thought that went through my head:

100 tonnes of gold! That must weigh a lot!

Curious to hear how the current situation in Australia has impacted your daily habits, if at all.

I'm definitely ordering takeout and dining out less - not because I can't afford it, but because it just doesn't feel like good value any more.

I have another account on lemmy.ml and can't see any of the aussie.zone communities when I search for them, even if I provide a proper URL as outlined here.

Maybe this is a problem on their side or just a bug, but I thought I'd mention it here in case there's an instance config issue here that can be fixed.

IMHO it would be nice if the communities here showed up on the biggest Lemmy instance to help aussies find their way here.

Edit: Looks like this took care of itself, likely just server congestion on the lemmy.ml side as others suggested. Thanks all!
