36 hours! That's long. Though, that's mostly how King's books are.

Have you watched the show? How would you compare it with the book?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Well, the book just might not be for you, no point in forcing yourself when there is so much else to read. Though if you have reached chapter 46, might as well finish the first book at least.

I have heard it mentioned before, but yeah, seems a bit heavy. Apparently the people the protagonist meet "typify the Russian middle aristocracy of the time", so yeah, not knowing much about the Russia of that time may diminish the book.

No worries. I am interested in Warhammer 40K and have some novels in my wishlist, Battletech, while different, also seemed somewhat similar. So, was just wondering about it.

How is the Animorphs series? My kid is still at level of "Diary of Wimpy Kid" books, but these look like interesting next step. Maybe, not right now, but in an year or two. Also, any other recommendations for a kid around 10?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Thanks for the recommendation. Will re-read the first book (it has been so long I don't really remember anything from it) and then read the next one to see if the series if for me or not.

How is Talking to Strangers?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I read Consider Phlebas long time ago, and didn't like it enough to continue the series. It has been long enough that maybe I should give the series another try.

Have you read Warhammer 40K novels? How does Battletech series compare with that? Or are they both completely different beasts?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Never heard of it, but it looks interesting, will check it out.

Sounds interesting, will check it out.

Finished Three Days to Never by Tim Powers. First half was pretty dense and slow, but second half, when things were getting obvious, and plans finally getting into motion, were very interesting, and was able to read them in just a few days.

It meets criteria for at least 3 different Bingo boxes, not sure where to place it. Would decide it later. ( @[email protected] We can do that right? Move them around different boxes after reading more books?)

Now I have just started Sunreach by Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson. It's first of three novellas, which are between book 2 and 3. (Well, third novella is generally recommended to be read after book 3, but that's a separate topic). It's a small book, so hopefully will be able to finish it soon.

What about all of you? What have you been reading or listening to lately?

A regular reminder about our Book Bingo, and it's Recommendation Post

We will be unfeaturing those posts now, so they won't be sticky on the top anymore. They will be mentioned in each weekly thread though, and you can also check them in community sidebar.

Continuing Three Days to Never by Tim Powers, I was around first quarter mark before, but have crossed the half mark now. The books has gotten really interesting, will probably finish this week, if nothing comes up.

A reminder about our Book Bingo. Take look, if you haven't already.

Bought couple of books for my young one, and just read through them.

  • Read Race to the Rescue By Zanib Mian, book 2 of her "Meet the Maliks - Twin Detective". It's kinda like The Wimpy Kid, but about twin Muslim kids and their family.
  • Read The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi. Book 1 of Amulet series. A 9 book series of graphic novels for kids.

And how many of you are taking part in our Books Bingo? Any progress yet?

Just saw this community on lemm.ee, and since it has no posts and mods, thought I should promote the existing bullet journal community [email protected]

It has a bit more people than here, but they are lurker like us, so there isn't much content, but if enough of us are in one place, maybe one day some of us will start posting. 😀

So, do join [email protected] and share your bujo!

Whole series is fully translated to German.

Reading Three Days to Never by Tim Powers. The premise is pretty interesting, can't wait to see where he takes it.

As mentioned last week, @[email protected] and @[email protected] are working on something related to Bingo card for books.

Keep your eyes peeled, just one week (or so) to go.

Also, welcome @[email protected] as a newly minted mod of this community!

Now to topic at hand, what have you been reading or listening lately?

Didn't get time to read at all this week, so still at the same place as last week.

  • Reading Three Days to Never by Tim Powers. A standalone sci-fi book.

Some of you may remember the post about Bingo card a little while back? Well, @[email protected] and @[email protected] are cooking something up, which we will unveil in upcoming weeks.

Stay tuned!

Without further ado, what have you been reading or listening lately?

Finished Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. Second book in Cytoverse series. Loved the way the series progressed, though didn't liked the post-ending much. Going to start the novella soon.

Started Three Days to Never by Tim Powers. It's a standalone sci-fi. Don't remember who recommended Tim Powers or when, but he was mentioned in my list, so got couple of his books. I have just started the book, something is happening, but I am not sure what, so no idea what to think about it yet. Let's see how it turns out.
