Its that time of the month again, BFF's monthly endurance ride is happening this Sunday. Meet at the shop at 8:30am!

Last month we went down to Wolf Lake and back, 53 miles round trip, at a 15.4mph average. They haven't stated which route they're taking this time, I'll update this if I see a route get posted.

I can't recommend this ride enough for folks interested in group road rides, its a great casual introduction to the hobby.

See you there 🚴

If you want to run a railroad, you should be on it. These fat-cat elites are far removed from the real life of public transportation. The biggies are too busy, their matters too important, to bother with the CTA. They have no clue about what it’s like to search for safety on a train car as the thieves and miscreants prey on riders. They don’t face the fear of standing in a bus shelter, alone at night, waiting for the ghost bus that never comes.

Amen.

From their instagram post:

This Thursday, join us for another night ride that will end at tribechi !
Meet Up: 7:30pm McCormick Place (2301 S King Drive) Ride out: 8pm End: tribechi (1239 W Lake Street)

The merger would have created the nation’s largest cannabis firm...

...Cresco Labs is the largest wholesaler of branded cannabis products in the U.S. It operates dispensaries in seven states, including 10 retail locations and three cultivation labs in Illinois.

Columbia Care is one of the original multi-state providers of medical cannabis in the U.S. It operates 126 facilities, including 94 dispensaries and 32 cultivation and manufacturing facilities.

I've been a little out of touch with the news in the Illinois marker and didn't realize this was even slated to happen. Great that it didn't though, consolidation is never good for consumers.

Lumpen Radio and International Anthem are doing a really interesting 24hr broadcast on Lumpen featuring some local (and not) heavyweights, like Star Creature and Numero, starting tonight at midnight and ending with a live preference by two local jazz giants; Damon Locks and Rob Mazurek, tomorrow night at 9.

Some local record shops will also be broadcasting it in store as well( including, 606, pinwheel, reckless, and more)

Should be a good listen 📻

From the email:

TOMORROW IS LISTENING will be available on terrestrial FM radio in the Chicago area via Lumpen Radio (105.5 FM); but more importantly, we have a growing list of independent record shops across the globe who will be tuning in.
That means: you can properly participate in this special day by leaving your solo reality tunnel, heading out IRL and listening to this broadcast in the community of friends and fellow music lovers at the cultural/communal sanctuary of your local record shop. The list of shops who will be tuned to the broadcast gets bigger by the minute.

It sounds like the plan is to keep the ride short and cool down after with a dip in the lake so come prepared 🏊

It's gonna be a hot one tomorrow! The high is going to be around 100 at 3pm and it will likely still be in the mid-to-high 90s when we roll, stay safe, stay hydrated!

“Instead of investing to retain current employees or support former employees through their transition following a recent sizable layoff, Cresco is spending money on lawyers to monitor and sue its former employees for finding new jobs,” spokeswoman Rosie Mattio said in a statement. “This move is not only distasteful to their former employees looking to continue their careers in the cannabis industry, but also a total waste of Cresco’s capital and resources.”

Getting spicy at the top of the corporate cannabis ladder!

This is a great example of why non-compete clauses are anti-worker, and why you should grow-your-own (or find your local home-grower). If they weren't playing lawyer wars maybe they could drop their prices a little?

Fuck Cresco.

This is our fastest (and funnest??!!) level of group ride. Our mechanic & aspiring pro-triathlete, Fiona, will lead this ride. 30-50 miles, at 16-18mph pace. Before the ride starts we will go over the basics of ride safety, the route & other important information. After the ride, snacks & drinks will be waiting for us at the shop!

I joined in on the May ride and had a blast. This is a very beginner friendly "no drop" group ride, I recommend anyone interested in road group rides to check this one out.

I think they may rotate which routes they use for this ride but this is was the May ride:

  • Route to Hometown Coffee in Glencoe and back
  • I tracked 39 miles
  • I averaged at 15.4 mph
  • I got "dropped" in the two sprint sections but again its a "no drop" ride so the sprinters wait for the pace group/stranglers
  • I was the only one on a vintage bike, with flat pedals, an not in a road kit and didn't feel weird or anything

Nubya Garcia, she's part of the blossoming London scene right now. She's the real deal, no doubt about it. I had the incredible experience of seeing her play live last summer in Chicago and its was phenomenal.

Her Tiny Desk is one of the best. Source, the lead track, is probably my favorite of her's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTIZikaOTDE

A French station, amazing! TSF is definitely going into the rotation. I'll be checking out KCSM later today as well, California seems to have a pretty healthy jazz radio scene, love to see it.

Thanks for the shares!

Oh nice, just added it to Foobar, thank you! I'll have to check out some of Jose's programs later, "Bop, Straight Ahead" sounds promising.

Where does David stand on belly rubs, because that belly is just asking for them.

Private trackers have a smaller footprint and are less attractive to LE than the bigger public ones. ISPs may not be tracking traffic to the smaller sites either so you’re probably less likely to get one of those annoying “we know what you’re doing” letters using a private. Being invite only restricts the amount of bad actors(LE) that get in too.

Private trackers also have rules around seeding and have incentives to encourage more seeding, so they tend to have a good amount of them across all sorts of content.

As for anime trackers, thats out of my wheelhouse, but any good private general tracker should a decent anime collection.

Just my two cents
