Too many things, especially games, only work on Windows. There's no replacing it at the moment.
After Windows 7, I prefer Linux, but I can't avoid needing Windows either.

This is messed up. I just recently deleted my account (used poweredeletesuite first to edit all my comments to a ".") before finding out about the API stuff. With it deleted, if they've restored my posts, I have literally no way to ever delete any of it again. It's not the end of the world for me fortunately (it could be bad for some people that may have revealed things that are too personal or could get them doxxed), but there were definitely things I'd like to have removed permanently.
The CEO is correct. The only thing that might actually affect reddit would be if the major subs purged their entire subs, but I assume this would take time, and they'd probably intervene to stop it. It's one thing to replace the mods, a whole other to have to build the popular subs back up from scratch.
Realistically, nothing will change on reddit. It will keep getting shittier, but most people won't care and will continue using it. My hope is that places like Lemmy grow to bring in a more select crowd of users (i.e., they can actually figure out how to create an account and then use it; not exactly a high bar, but one that is too much for the 'common' user of most social media).
Having deleted my account (after editing and deleting every post) only for this to happen, it really sucks, because now I have no way to actually get all of my old posts removed. I wasn't even deleting because of the protests, I was just purging an old account before they changed the API and I couldn't use power delete suite anymore.
