Earlier this month, the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive walked out the door in a group resignation. But while some of the circumstances around their departure emerged in the reporting, one pressing question was left unanswered: why? IGN has pieced together a somewhat complex answer.

In the original interview, she makes it clear that there several incidents and that the AI images she got were the last straw which convinced her to delete Twitter.

Yeah, if anyone needed a clear sign where exTwitter's journey was going, that was it. It's the nazi bar now and people should not hang out there anymore.

Yeah, it's way overdue to delete Twitter, but I also know far too many people who cling to it, providing one specious justification or another. I really don't know what still needs to happen in order for left-ish/progressive/queer/... people to finally get off of Twitter.

Additionally to what has already been mentioned: People are susceptible to politics that confirm their prejudices. Right-wing political thought is largely based on confirming that whatever prejudices people hold, they are morally good and justified. Thus elevating an in-group above out-groups. That is a powerful lure.

"Free speech" has always been a right-wing dog whistle. It has nothing to do with anyone's legal right, it's a means to claim victimhood and justify attacking others as "defense".

Sure, but the damage is done. A major US newspaper giving credence to the lies is a win for the people spreading hate, whether there is a retraction or not. It's not about facts after all.
