The solution is to run blender from the terminal like so vblank_mode=0 blender
Basically adding the vblank_mode=0 allows Blender to run further than VSYNC allows.
He had back pain, this was his solution for a less painful way to sit.
Is it perhaps related to the Codec of the videos?
