Mother's Basement's hottest trash video for this season just came out. This is another one of those things I always look forward to each season.

I have been really enjoying this series even though it releases so infrequently. A cute romcom as well as a way to learn about some of the intricacies of kanji.

I loved her horns getting wrapped up as well. Is it safety or is it so that her friends won't keep sticking erasers on them? We might never know...

For as mundane and ordinary as the events in these chapters are, there is so much personality that comes across. It's really well done. There aren't super high stakes like nationals or anything like that, just some baseball players trying their best at practice and the absolute goofballs they have as managers.

The synopsis for this series sounds kind of generic, but I have loved this series way more than I thought I would. There have been some incredibly hype and emotional moments in what I have read so far.

Ako is going to be a problem. She is suuper interested in Yutaka.

Also, it felt a bit out of character for Tsumiki to be self-conscious about her appearance like that. There might be some more history between these two that we don't know yet.

That was a great chapter. I have really enjoyed this series.

I finally finished my report writing this week at work...only to then proceed to leave for vacation. I have had a series of hops, skips, and jumps across my home country and found myself visiting some of my wife's family out in Los Angeles for now. All that said to preface the fact I won't be able to post much over the next week or two. In fact, I will often not be able to check what's going on at all. To that end...

I would like to welcome Kadath, @[email protected], to the moderation team for the community. She has very graciously agreed to be another set of eyes to screen reports, watch for spam, etc. I look forward to working together with the community's resident villainess moderator to make this a better place for everybody (note that I have in no way cleared that title with Kadath).

That aside, I was able to read a little bit.

  • Tsuitenai Game Jikkyousha wa Akogare no Hito ni Kakinsareru - This series just had its final chapter with chapter 21. I had no idea that it was coming to an end though. However, the ending was actually nice! It won't go down as one of my favorites ever, but it did a good job depicting a romcom set in university and some of the parasocial complications that must arise when livestreamers interact with fans.
  • Harapeko Oyako to Motokare Yanushi / A Hungry Mother and Daughter and Her Ex-Boyfriend Landlord - I found this series this past week and it is pretty much what it says on the tin. Imagine an ex from 19 years ago shows up at your door with a young child and hungry. Would you offer to let them live with you? Well, our MC does. It's only four chapters in, so not sure yet if this is going to be mom and daughter hijinx or if this is going to be a bit more on the serious/drama side. Willing to let this one go for a bit to find its voice.

Weekly ranking roundup:

  1. Anime Corner - Full Results - Weekly Winner: Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian
  2. Anime Trending - Weekly Winner: Makeine
  3. Reddit Karma - Weekly Winner: Oshi no Ko

Credit to /u/Abysswatcherbel for making the chart for reddit karma and /u/Nooble5 for the Anime Trending chart.

Three different winners across the three different charts this week. It's always nice to see some variety in representation in these charts. I think this week marks the first time Makeine has ranked #1 on any of these so far this season.

I have spent all weekend traveling (for vacation this time, not for work). So, it has been a series of flights, layovers, car rentals, etc., but we finally made it to sunny Los Angeles to visit some of my wife's family. All of that is to preface that I will probably not be very active for this week (or next) because of this. However, most of this past week, I was still able to watch stuff. Also, I have thoughts...

  • Trigun (1998) - My wife and I have been slowly chipping away at this series. We are currenly up to episode 13. Overall I have enjoyed it (she has seen it before). However, the humor definitely feels dated at times, especially with how lecherous so many of the male characters are. If Master Roshi or Jiraiya bothered you, then so will this show.
  • Oshi no Ko Season 2 - These past couple episodes have been phenomenal. So, so glad this season has been able to deliver after a bit of a slow start.
  • Tower of God Season 2 - This season has felt like a letdown compared to season 1 for me. I am up through episode 6 and just don't feel invested in this whole new cast of characters. The peak of the season for me so far were Khun's parts.
  • Love is Indivisible by Twins - This show has continued to deliver guilty pleasures. Lots of drama, while keeping the actual stakes fairly low. Naori is a pop-culture reference machine though and I can only keep track of half of what she says.

I have had to drop a couple shows for time: Quality Assurance, Plus-Sized Elf, Spice and Wolf, Dahlia in Bloom. I am probably going to try to pick some of these back up again after my vacation.

Glad to have you!

I just caught up with these two chapters that came out after a bit of a hiatus in the translations. I thought this was just a cute father/daughter series about a demon girl. The emotional outpouring in chapter 9 caught me off guard.
