feel free to dm/reply if a problem is faced, also r/youtubedl has a mod who answers almost every question

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

VLC does support it, if the subtitles are in .ASS format

update: a solution was provided and I edited the post

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

update: It worked perfectly! I first tried some online converters but their produced .ass files didn't have even colors. but when I tried subtitle edit (on my brother's computer cuz I don't have Windows) the produced subtitles where exactly the same as in Youtube!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

if they are not stylized you can download them as soft sub. you could download the movie too, all using yt-dlp, since you have access I think.
I mentioned how to download subtitles in my post

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

subtitleedit

this is the software ?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

well, you can turn them off so they're not burned into video. the format is .vtt I think,
I linked a video

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

tried MPV since I'm on ubuntu, yeah it displayed the subtitles when I imported them (after downloading as vtt files). certainly better than VLC, but the effects and colors and exact position are not there. I think the position might be easy to adjust, but the other things no idea.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

doesn't burning subtitles mean rendering? i.e changing the quality in some sense ?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (2 children)

actually it is not just color, there are other effects too like fading and exploding I see sometimes, for example each word gets highlighted or enlarged when the singer spells it like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StLX4kITjWU

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

here is a video example, they're not like hard subs, rather like soft subs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i3pX-2NLKk&list=PLJrvLNDbcTd4uwprjTN5nwwPzRmHf116i&index=20

The thumbnail image is a screenshot from a Youtube video, for a song. the lyrics in gold color are Youtube closed captions, they look cool and stylish right? This is common in videos of 4K scaled anime openings. Can I get these offline? I know I can download videos using yt-dlp, and include subtitles in the container using the --embed-subs flag, I think you can also download subtitle files in vtt extension, but VLC can't read them I think.

I didn't include a link cuz it might become a hustle for dbzer0, but since some are asking here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXzoiiZo5LA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StLX4kITjWU

there were better ones (Kaguya-sama openings) but I can't find them anymore on Youtube, stupid copyrights, thus my obsession of hoarding what I like

Update: @[email protected] provided the solution,
1- download the subtitle file in vtt format using yt-dlp:
yt-dlp --skip-download --embed-subs https://youtu.be/5i3pX-2NLKk?si=waYB6Jv4d6gxsVuh

2- use Subtitle Edit's batch converter tool to convert the vtt file into .ass format

3- now just import it on VLC while watching your downloaded video, the subtitles will appear in the same styling as on Youtube, additionally you can embed them to the video container using ffmpeg

I heard that it is possible to inject video containers with malware. I also heard malware is rampant on 1337x. And I don't have an antivirus to scan files for the moment cuz I'm on Linux, also it would be too much for me to upload the movie to virustotal.

I found a release that suits my need for the movie I'm looking for, but I don't know if I can trust this uploader (TGxGoodies). the number of seeders is over 120 for the movie.
the reason I'm reluctant is that a very active uploader on 1337x: IGGGAMESCOM is labeled "Vip Uploader" despite a simple search on reddit shows that there are victims for their malware-injected uploads.

pure liberal cringe. And propaganda. When I tried to post the propaganda that I believe my post was deleted. Also a lot U.S.A drama of politics, like any of that matters. How do I make lemmy.world disappear from my feed in dbzer0 ?

Yesterday I was looking for a niche game and I almost downloaded it from IGGGAMESCOM (which r/piracy claim is not safe). Anyway while searching I stumbled upon a cwhub link for the game that shows the date when the game was cracked and the name of the group (in this case it was DARKZER0). So is cwhub the database that everyone is using ? Cuz searching on r/crackwatch isn't efficient I think (reddit search), and you need sometimes to be sure that you're looking for something that actually exists

here is the full subject for context: https://imgur.com/a/HmNaMIu
You have to choose one of 2 exam papers. Would you choose the second subject ? the one revolving around piracy denial that is.

I recently got into fighting games (like: kof - street fighters - Mortal Kombat - Guilty Gear...etc). Now you can pirate the game, and you can play it online with someone if the two of you agree on using same pirated copy and Hamachi for example, but where do you meet these people to play with? are there dedicated forums for online games lobbies?

I don't even know how people with steam copies find opponents online, I just see them mention "the steam lobbies". But from observing people's reviews on their online experience with kof XIII, I understood that it overwhelmingly sucks.

I took fighting games as example here cuz I already know fps games like Counter-Strike 1.6 have sufficient sites like this: https://www.gametracker.com/search/cs/

I remember we used to play pirated Yu-Gi-Oh! using Hamachi, organized through facebook groups, so is that the only hope for these situations? praying to find a facebook group for organized matches of your niche?

disclaimer: I'm just asking to get understanding of the theory behind network traffic encryption, I know this doesn't happen irl most likely.

Let's take https connection for example. I like watching revolutionary things on youtube and do not wish for authorities to know what I am watching, we accept here for the sake of showcase that google won't sell my watch history if asked (LMAO what am I even saying?).
So if I'm not mistaken since youtube has https implemented, our communication is encrypted, the keys are shared only between me and youtube. But when Youtube shares the key with me/my client the first time, is that also encrypted? Wouldn't the same question keep getting answered until there is something unencrypted? I know this is a bit too much unlikely, but if ISP automated the process of gathering keys and decrypting web traffic for a certain site with them for all users, would that work for them?
I'm taking https here as an example, while I have the same question for like VPN.

EDIT: Thank you everybody. I am not a member of this community, but every comment was a golden experience to read!

I tried to interact with lemmygrad using this dbzer0 account but I can't. They also seem to refuse accepting my signup request. when I tried searching "lemmygrad" locally, I found relevant only this comment from captain @[email protected] appearing on the attached screenshot. I tried to follow the comment's post but it is not to be found. Just wanted to know the lore.

This statement was made by Ubisoft's director of subscriptions, Phillipe Tremblay, who recently spoke to Gamesindustry.biz about the digital future and Ubisoft Plus specifically. Tremblay states that people eventually "got comfortable" with not owning their CD or DVD collections, and that a similar shift in attitude "needs to happen" in gamers.

So there are multiple sites&groups that pirate video games especially on PC. I was wondering if there are places on the internet where you find source code for games especially the highly modifiable ones like Half Life 2/Portal and Skyrim. Or groups that crack into the source code of games (or even software in general), not only for PC maybe PS, XBox or mobile too, and share it. I just wanted to see some code samples of games or their engines, maybe I get hooked into video game design. Shout out to Valve for sharing a lot about the creation of Half Life 1

I'm on Ubuntu using Firefox browser. I get the notifications from reddit on my desktop. On the top toolbar, there is a bell icon where I can find unread notifications from telegram, firefox (from the sites allowed to send notifications), the package manager (about software updates) ...ect. Whenever someone replies to my post or comment on reddit a notification with sound appears on my desktop, and even if I miss it, I can see it if I click the bell icon on the top toolbar, which has a sign to indicate there is a notification I didn't click.
I'm setting permission for lemmy.dbzer0 to send notifications to "allowed" on Firefox, but I receive nothing. For instance I would forget to check replies to my posts and comments here. And it becomes even worst since I have an account in more than one lemmy instance, so I have to check every one of them for updates on discussions I missed!
