Her mom, a feral one who has avoided our capture, dropped Football on our porch one day and I invited her in. That was about 4 years ago.

Hi, I recently made the switch to Lemmy from Reddit. But r/homekit is one of the communities I miss the most.

What can I do to help build this community up? I’m happy to make posts, comment, and upvote. Is trying to poach people from r/homekit a bad idea?

I would love to get to know everyone better. Here’s some info about my smart home.

  • I’m using Apple Home, and my primary hub is a 4K Apple TV 4K Ethernet, which I chose for the Thread radio.
  • I’m almost exclusively using Thread devices, and most of those are Matter over Thread.
  • Most of my lights are Nanoleaf Essentials (Matter over Thread), and despite people hating Nanoleaf, they have been much better lately.
  • For more advanced lighting, I’m using WLED, which is a DIY project for controlling addressable light strips.
  • My WLED lights are bridged into HomeKit via Homebridge, though I’ve considered switching to Home Assistant.
  • I’m using a Deco mesh router with two nodes, and it’s been amazing for the relatively low cost.
  • Outside of Apple Home, I use Ring, which I’ve bridged into Apple via Homebridge. I hate the Ring subscription, but their hardware is solid.

Excited to get to know everyone!

She died about 10 years ago. I love and have loved all the pets I've ever had, but Pyxel was something special. She was very headstrong and did whatever she felt like, getting pissed off if you did something she didn't like. But when she was in the mood she would be the sweetest thing in the world.

She was saved from the dumpster, along with her mother and brother. The mother had to be put down and a lot of the brothers and sisters didn't make it from being dumped in a trash bag. But Pyxel and her brother made it and we adopted them from the rescue when they were very young still.

I remember Pyxel sleeping for hours in my lap, or in the cat bed on my desk. When I was working from home, she slept in the cat bed, till she got fed up, went for a drink and a snack only to get back and jump in my lap because it was her time and she would let me know it.

Still miss her every day.

Minecraft Realm Seeking Players

Daughter (19) owns the realm and plays from university. Father (58) plays often as does father's sister (55). Son (16) plays occasionally but is mostly interested in being a chaotic disrupter who harasses his sister. Father has made him knock it off so he mostly plays combat games with his friends. Father's friend (65) also plays occasionally. We all live in Ontario, Canada and New York, USA.

We're a peaceful, cooperative realm. There are a number of clusters of houses/bases. Kids first built big, showy houses in the Badlands biome because it looked cool but found that it was resource poor. Dad joined and explored and found a wooded mountain that suited him better and built a farm house. The farmhouse has been expanded a couple of times and now has bedrooms for all 5 members plus two spares and an observation tower with 5 floors that would make nice, large bedrooms. The farm includes pens of sheep (white, black, grey, brown, and rainbow), pigs, cows, a horse, a goat, and a bunch of llamas that dad stole from traders, and a chicken coop with chickens. The farm is surrounded by tree farm with oak, birch, cherry, dark oak, acacia, spruce, and mangrove trees. There are beehives, a fishing hut, a big open building called the Citadel that isn't being used for anything and a 32 block in diameter cobbled deepslate sphere affectionately called the Deathstar. There are other houses spread around the map as well as forward operating bases. There is a sky train connecting the main bases together and tunnels with railways.

We're looking for players interested in joining us. You can be a farmer, a miner, a builder, or an adventurer. Daughter is an adventurer who explores the map looking for abandoned mines, caves, the deep dark, and monuments to look for goodies and brings back exotic plants and trees for dad to farm. Dad is a farmer/miner/builder who stays close to the farm. Dad's sister is new to Minecraft but is going gangbusters building and living in a meadow below the farm mountain. You can live in the farmhouse and farm and mine, you can build nearby and use the farm as a source of resources, or you can strike out across the map challenging daughter for master explorer.

The farm is resource rich so you will be well supported.

We mostly chat in WhatsApp and often play in the realm together without communicating other than the occasional bark of "SLEEP!" when someone isn't getting to bed quickly enough.

We are all English speaking. Dad speaks a little French. Girl/women gamers are more than welcome. There isn't any toxic masculinity in our realm. Age obviously doesn't matter (other than the maturity to play cooperatively and not be a chaotic disrupter like son.) Experience level in Minecraft doesn't matter. Father's sister hadn't played until a few weeks ago and is now all in. Location doesn't matter.

We're a VERY open and inclusive group of people and players.

If you're interested and think you might be a good fit send me a note.
