This point was driven home when Richard Dawkins spoke up about it. Through his own words, he proved quite clearly that a lot of men just don’t get it. Here’s what happened, boiled down from a video post Skepchick Rebecca Watson made about this (she tells this story starting at 4m30s into the video at that link). Rebecca was a speaker at a conference recently. After her talk and a late evening of socializing with attendees at the bar, she got on an elevator to go to her room. She found herself alone on the elevator with a man presumably also an attendee. He said he “found her very interesting”, and would she like to get some coffee in his hotel room? Rebecca turned him down, and in her video talks about how uncomfortable that made her feel. If the story ended here there would be obvious things to say about it (obvious to me, at least, but not everyone, as will become quite clear). This man may have had nothing but noble intentions, but that doesn’t matter. Being alone in an elevator with a man late at night is uncomfortable for any woman, even if the man is silent. But when he hits on her? There’s no way to avoid a predatory vibe here, and that’s unacceptable. A situation like this can lead to sexual assault; I just read in the news here in Boulder that a few days ago a relatively innocent situation turned into assault. This isn’t some rare event; it happens a lot and most women are all-too painfully aware of it.

Women ride elevators alone?

It becomes criminalized to chat with a woman in an elevator late at night..?

Illegal to pick gals up unless they are in a completely public place?

I had to fight to get Chat GTP to recite the Saint Benedict medal prayer.

It would consistently give me wrong data until I backed it into a corner.

I fed it the prayer line by line, said it knew what prayer those lines were from, and even then fed me back the wrong prayer.

I had to call it out on giving me wrong info, then finally I got the prayer.

It gave me wrong info on purpose.

Stumbled upon this idea in some reading:

Uhhh I guess I've seen a lot of people concerned about AI destroying jobs recently but I remember some years back... we were kind of rooting for AI to destroy some jobs?

The doctors, lawyers, and other such professions have had legally held monopolies on their professions, creating artificial barriers to competition... I was very much looking forward to their "professions" being leveled for having defended such destructive compulsory environments, from schools to workplaces.

Much to silence the critics that say, "would you really want your doctor to have a degree from 'youtube university'?" (answer: yes, in some cases, indeed) I can now look forward to AI replacing such doctors, with the normies not complaining about it.

Of course, the various "professionals" agreeing to voluntarily allow competition to their professions (to allow for schools to open in competition and to not require licenses to practice certain professions) would be an acceptable alternative. But since these "professionals" refuse to give up their (stolen?) privileges, I guess I (we?) were rooting for AI to destroy their (taken?) privileges in this way.

Anyone else still have this attitude? (I suppose some of the other disrupted "unregulated" or less regulated industries are more collateral damage in this "attack")
