I've got a post in my community that was posted by mistake. This one:

https://lemmy.world/post/4989402

It was actually me that posted it from my Mastodon account.

I can't see a way to delete or hide it from the community.

The kebab menu only has the following items:

  • Create report
  • Block user
  • Lock
  • Community pin

I've tried reporting the post and it appears on the report page, but I don't seem to be able to do anything with it other than clicking "resolve report".

Hi folks 👋

Is it possible to take over a community that was created by a now absent owner?

This is the community:

[email protected]

I've messaged the mod @[email protected] a few times but I don't get a response. I also created a post in the hopes they would notice, but I think they've abandoned the community - their last activity was 3 months ago.

I'd like to develop this community further, but I'm stuck without being able to become a mod myself.

Any ideas?

That's the visible text of a comment, from someone whose other comments are visible to me.

Never seen this before, and as mod, I'm uncomfortable leaving someone's comment online when I can't see it.

Thx

Sorry for the old-school terminology and mis-terms in this message as I have not had a problem like this since my dumb-terminal days (I'm guessing that long)

How does one add the proper carriage returns to a post?

I have these three lines, with a new line on each but formats as one paragraph: This is line 1. This is line 2. This is line 3.

The only way I can separate these lines is using an extra carriage return between each line which looks horrible.

This is line 1.

This is line 2.

This is line 3.

How do I get the above lines to show up without that extra new line between each?

Thanks!

This is a peculiar situation, but basically I have been transferred primary mod status on a community from a community squatter. Because they were just squatting on the community name they never made any posts. Is there any mobile app or web app that implements a way to remove someone as a mod if they have never made a post?

Hi, I would like to add another user as a moderator in a community I currently moderate - is there a menu or tool for this? Please help.

I am interested in taking a consensus amongst the community on certain actions or rules to implement. Is there a way to post a poll?

I have a friend who would like to hide their existing lemmy posts for a certain period of time and make them available at a later date. Can anyone advise if this is possible or if a moderator can do that?

I run a community for a sports league ([email protected]) where members can be a fan of one of twelve (soon to be 14!) teams. Oftentimes, communities will allow users to select a "flair" -- a small image that appears next to their username -- that displays their team affiliation. Mostly, this is accomplished with some custom style sheet, the css ::after psuedo-selector and Unicode reserved-range characters, but I'm not picky about how this is implemented.

My question is: do Lemmy communities support flaring in any way? Can I add a custom style sheet to my community at all?

Hello Lemmy moderators!

The Lemmy.World administrator team is planning to release a Moderator Code of Conduct for Lemmy soon.

Even though there will be some basic principles we will follow, which can be found here, we still need your valuable input. We'd like to hear your suggestions on what to add to this Code of Conduct, as you know best about what you want and need.

This Code of Conduct would lay out the official rules, set principles and goals for Lemmy.World moderators, and for any other instance that wishes to follow it.

With Love,
The Lemmy.World Administrator (Team)

Is this a good neutral place to spotlight poor moderation?

For example, my post to [email protected] asked what is a decent client for Debian was removed (per rule #3). While at the same time this “What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?” is not only not removed, it was actually started by the moderator themself, and stickied. So this is a case of a moderator /above the law/ breaking their own rules which they selectively enforce.

In principle there should be a record of this sort of conduct so users know which moderators to avoid (thus which communities to avoid).

Hi moderator team(s),

This is a link to the backgrounds, graphics and otherwise that I've help make for the Lemmy.world squad. Hopefully, this can be somewhat helpful in your work in your communities.

Well yes it is! But that's why it is important to look at it... All us moderators and community owner have responsibility towards the server. This is our server. I think it'll be more flourishing for the community if we enforce this perspective in the server/instance.

Hey all 👋

I'm trying to add my @[email protected] account as a moderator to the [email protected] community, which is currently moderated remotely by @[email protected].

This action has been successfully applied on lemmy.one, as visible in the @[email protected] moderated communities on that instance:

https://lemmy.one/u/[email protected]

This change doesn't appear to have federated to the same profile on lemmy.world however:

https://lemmy.world/u/lemann

Would it be possible to assist with this issue, or maybe point me to any further channels that could be able to assist?

Thanks in advance

I have a few subs I want to give away, and I am wondering; what would be the best way to give away communities you're no longer interested in running?

Is there a way to view the subscriber list. I'm thinking there are some bots sitting on the sub. I would like to confirm. Thanks.

I don't know who needs to hear this where, but being able to sort a user's comments by controversial would be a quick way to get a gauge on how generally inflammatory a user is when moderating one of their comments.

Hello Feddit,

I'm trying to get my foot in the door of the moderating world, but with no luck this far. I aspire to make this a better place! If there's an enthusiastic community out there somewhere, that needs a helping hand from an enthusiastic moderator, then you can consider me.

That's all.

Cant login to my account MJB9000, first i got the 404site.ban, then found my account was banned through another account which is weird because this is my first hour on the site and i haven’t interacted to done anything yet, modlog doesn’t show anything, cleared cache, reset password, tried to login with email, nothing worked.

One thing changed was after the successful password reset i used to get site ban 404 error, now I get “logged in” but when I log in it doesn’t do anything and I’m stuck.

How long would a mod have to be inactive in order to successful take control of a community with inactive mods? Just curious because there are 2 communities I would like to take control if the mods are inactive if possible.

So moderators/admins, I am the founder and moderator of c/politics. For context, I hired a moderator who I will not name, but he is controversial with users for his views and demand he be remove. I ignored them and continued with my day, then later I received this message from him.

Is he impersonating an admin to try to get us to remove the user as I don't see an admin on his name and his account was created 7 days ago. Just asking if you guys heard of him.

Thanks, yeah just an impersonator trying to get me to remove an important mod.
