I just started the game a few days ago. I have "found out how I died" a lot, but it's fun.

I have a question however: where can I find non tap water? I get lost easily, the map is hard to follow, and I keep dehydrating in the forests when my bottles run empty. I understand I will have to purify it from a fire or something.

Also, how do I eat the wood glue I keep finding in sheds? It looks so tasty.

In multiplayer I can't see the same options as in singleplayer. Attached image is from SP. In multiplayer, I can't see e.g. "bleeding Time 1.47".

In the multiplayer world, I have a fracture and I really want to know when it has finished healing. So far it has been 20 days.

I've tried granting admin access level, but the second I enable admin, all my complications gets automatically healed.

Any ideas? I don't mind looking in files/databases, if that's what it takes. Any comment is appreciated!

I don't think I've sunk as much time into any other mechanic in the game as I have with the map. Especially with mods like draw on map and map symbol size changer to do fine details.

I end up using the map for everything, like to-do lists, shopping lists, route planning... I have no idea how I used to play this game before and I never want to go back.

Do you guys like the map too?

Just making some Zomboid discussion about something,

So let me start, what type of weather effects have really taken you a spin?

One of more memorable moments was when I started a run that had unexpected heavy rainstorms, I think it was tropical storms in the first 20 days.

It was horrible having to deal with the monsoon rain and wind with the added danger of a thick fog that lasted most of the day. I made a bee line to north western riverside gas station in the boonies but didn't find much seeds to get myself self suffiecient. Which forced me to take the long travel back to Riverside to resupply. Unfortunately because of the bad weather that started around day 4, added to my paranoia worrying about the helicopter I decided on the was a slow process of moving house to house waiting for the weather to clear a bit before moving on, spending about two days in houses along the way, eating perishable foods, filling water into containers and setting out everything of value out on the floor for future trips.

It was day 7 or 8 when I got to the series of houses that was a few blocks away from the riverside scrap yard and I was doing the the usual prep work wanting to head into town and decided to go to sleep during the day as the weather hadn't let up and thought I would take my chances later hoping for better weather when I wake up. i did this, woke up at night and it still foggy so I decided closed the game for the session.

The next time I started playing, the helicoptor event starts not soon after.... I admit I was not impressed and just saved and quit to get over my frustration until I felt ready to try tough it out - for me it is like waiting for the cautious state to pass from Metal Gear Solid but more intense as I usually don't have much of a plan b. Eventually I go back to play having mentally prepared myself and the helicopter event had finished and to my mixed reaction only had to deal with a few stranglers that were probably drawn by the initial helicopter event starting.

By around day 12 the weather still hasn't improved, and it is still miserable as ever. Unfortunately I didn't screenshot it but I experienced something around, 18:00 game time a series of weather events that was truly horrifying to experience. I just resigned myself to just sitting in a room and when zooming out all I could seeing was just an impenetrable thick fog and heavy rain flying across the screen with my character sitting in a little dark room surrounded by this omnious weather.

That run didn't last too long as it was too much of an uphill battle for me with the weather being so oppressive without me getting settled. It was an especially depressing playthrough that drained my enthusiasm as my paranoia got the better of me fearing getting stranded in riverside in the fog during a thunderstorm

This decade-old Early Access title on Steam is getting a major overhaul soon, which will completely change the survival zombie horror game.

  • Project Zomboid Build 42 is the biggest update to the game yet, with new crafting mechanics, weapons, customization options, and the ability to extend the length of sandbox campaigns.
  • Players can access the new features early by joining the Project Zomboid test branch, although there is a risk of encountering bugs or corrupt save files.
  • The update will introduce new professions like Blacksmithing, Stonework, and Brewing, allowing players to be more self-sufficient and create advanced weapons.

Roleplaying? (lemmy.world)
submitted 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Have you guys tried roleplaying with your characters (multiplayer)?

Not necessarily through audio but with the game chat function at least!

  • Comment on the events heard/seen on the TV/radio
  • Build up a character personality through their occupation and personality traits and act on them
  • Tell tales of what you have done in the game
  • Discuss about several locations in the game world
  • Go through future prospects, goals, fears...

I tried a little bit with one friend (the others weren't interested) with one line here there. Was fun!

With modded extra animations it could get even more interesting!

I feel like now I've played a bit, I can go through the motions and make my character secure within a week i.e survive the helicopter event, find a car, secure a base, have ample food, water and guns.

For me, the zombies don't really pose a threat any more knowing that I can just make a racket, round them up and pied Piper the fuckers to the nearest forest. I guess I'm waiting for NPCs to really stir things up but that doesn't seem to be in the near future.

What have you guys done to make the game more difficult or entertaining after you got the gameplay loop down?

So far I'm on my longest run yet, I've been playing it safe, and avoiding fights as much as I can.

Currently I have a base in Rosewood, in one of the houses behind the fire station. It's all boarded up, and I've build up a good supply of canned food, tools and all sorts of guns.

I also have my generator ready to go for when the power goes. Water has already stopped running, I have two water coolers in my base, about 20 water bottles, and 5 rain collector crates outside. I started working on building a little shack to get clean water, but need to level up carpentry to level 6 in order to build stairs and finish the roof.

But what should I be focusing on next? I haven't done any metalworking yet. Haven't started with farming, and have no way of securing meat once my supply runs out.

I do have a nice firetruck, with 4 full canisters of gas. Ideally I want to build up some more gas, but have been struggling to find more canisters.

Night one in the mall - it is very dark here, i brought my tent it will do for the time being. Its very scary hearing the dead roam the mall. Hopefully backup will arrive soon. In the mean time i'm going to clear some more. If anyone finds this note, I'm either dead or had to run and lick my wounds. Fuzz

Night two in the mall - I hooked up some speakers to a radio and played my favourite song to attract some zeds. It's quite eerie hearing the music echo in the hall, followed by the groans of the undead. I ready my shotgun and see the shells piled up in my bag, I should be able to rid a big group of them. Ironically the song is called "You're gone"... will this be my last stand off?

Night 3 and 4 at the mall - I was making great progress in the mall. It started to get quieter and I started to feel safe. Clearing it with that shotgun and ammo that I found was so satisfying. Thought it did nearly get me killed. My shotgun jammed just as I was going to kill a zombie at point blank range. Luckily I could hit the zombie in the face with it and distanced myself again.

While I was looting the BBQ store, I found the holy grail that we have been looking for quite some time. It's the magazine that teaches us how to use generators. In my enthusiasm I radioed back home, shouting with joy.

Ché, Anvi and Peet were chuffed and told me to rest there one more night. Come dawn they were going to head towards me and fetch me by car.

I was exhausted but exited to see my friends again so I went back to my tent. I made sure I barricaded the storage room I was camped in and put the shotgun next to my sleeping bag. I actually slept really well since the first time in ages.

The next day we all were chatting and laughing on the walkietalkies while they were heading to the mall. For the very first time in ages, I really felt alive. Anvi souped up one of the cars making him drive like a speed demon. It was funny but also nerve wrecking to hear him nearly kill himself while swerving out of the away from the zombies while racing the rest of the crew.

When they arrived the mood was still joyful. Perhaps I was too optimistic and gave them a false sense of security. We put the magazine and some supplies I gathered in the trunk of the car. We decided to do a quick look before we left. We all to separate parts of the mall trying to find some more valuable loot. It wasn't long before we could hear screaming and shouting coming from the south side of the mall. It was Anvi, he got boxed in on the escalator and was panicking and screaming for helm. I ran there as fast as I could, and readied my shotgun. Just as I walked around the corner I saw that my friend was being mauled and eaten by the undead. I was filled with rage and started to blast them. Perhaps I could still save him.

The zombies around him were dead, though not much was left of him. I couldn't bare the sight, so I turned around and tried to find the rest of my friends. I heard another groan and looked behind my shoulder. It was Anvi he was shambling towards me while almost tripping over his own intestines. I couldn't shoot him, even though he turned into a zed.

I started to run to my other friends and saw Che, he saw my grim look and didn't ask any questions. Just as we made eye contact we heard more screams of pain. Before we could react and figure out where he was they stopped. We eventually found his eaten corpse with his duffel bag just behind the counter with the popcorn machine. The zeds were no where to be seen.

We fled to the car and drove back to our base. We didn't say a word during this ride. I felt terrible and very guilty. It's because of me and my stupid idea of living in the mall, that my friends are gone. I shouldn't have stayed there for so long and shouldn't have said it was safe. I'm going to drink that bottle of bourbon I found and hopefully drown my sorrows. Tomorrow will be another day in this hell infested world and I cannot let it consume me too. "

The community seemed a bit low on content, so I rummaged through our private dedicated servers history to get some OG lemmy content up in here. A friend of mine wrote this when he was off solo. Hope you enjoyed!

This is a classic Zomboid guide which really helped me in surviving week 1. Hopefully it can help some newbies who wander over to this community.

I didn't see a post here yet but wanted to make sure this Community is up and running. I really liked the community we had over at Reddit and I think we should strive to keep kind to one another during the apocalypse and continue creating fun content to enjoy our favourite indie game.

Keep on keeping on, Zomboids.
