BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- China urges the United States to end its illegal troop deployment in Syria and stop plundering the country's resources, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a daily press briefing when asked about a report alleging that the U.S. military in Syria is involved in illegal wheat transportation, using over ten trucks daily to smuggle Syria's grains out of the country.

Mao said Syria was once a wheat exporter, but now approximately 55 percent of its people are facing food insecurity, for which the United States bears unshirkable responsibility.

Facts have proven that the United States, under the guise of anti-terrorism, has been exploiting resources, the spokesperson added.

The three activists were part of a group sent to Cebu — the oldest city in the Philippines with over 1 million residents.

Leaving the airport, they passed by the Mactan Economic Zone — a tax‐free, low‐regulation center where more than 200 foreign companies exploit over 50,000 workers — the second largest Economic Zone in the Philippines.

At Cendet — an institution with a long and well‐known history that provides services to workers, urban poor, farmers and fisherfolks in the Visayas — some background to Cebu’s struggles for justice was given by Jaime Paglinawan Sr. He is one of 27 activists who was recently charged for supposedly violating the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012 by the Department of Justice’s Terror Task Force and the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It would be like the Pentagon charging community activists with terrorism.

The 27 defendants released a statement demanding that the government drop the phony charges and stop “its anti‐poor and anti‐people policies that conspire with the imperialists, huge local business owners and landlords to generate more wealth in their pockets”.

The Israeli newspaper Maariv quoted Yair Katz, Chairman of the Israel Aerospace Industry Workers’ Council, who said that resorting to “breaking the equation” would be an option if Iran, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and other Middle Eastern countries decide to confront Israel.

“We have the ability to use a doomsday weapon,” Katz reportedly said.

Katz also noted the role of allies in helping to counter an Iranian attack on Israel, mentioning that Israeli engineers and workers “prepared for this scenario for several weeks.”

Russia has advanced from “upper middle” to “high” category on the strength of its economic growth.

This economic growth happened even after the US and its allies levied thousands of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine conflict, openly stating that their goal was to destroy the Russian economy and provoke regime change in Moscow.

Germany’s flag carrier Lufthansa has suspended nighttime flights to and from Lebanon’s capital Beirut amid the Israeli regime’s threats of launching a wholesale military action against the West Asian country.

Announcing on Saturday, the airlines said the measure would remain in force until July 31.

According to a spokesperson, daytime flights will continue as scheduled.

Swiss International Air Lines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, also announced that it would shift its Beirut nighttime flights to daytime until the end of July "due to the political developments” on the border between Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.

“[The] working group concludes that his detention had no legal basis and appears to have been intended to disqualify him from running for political office. Thus, from the outset, that prosecution was not grounded in law and was reportedly instrumentalised for a political purpose,”

In April this year, a Pakistani high court suspended Khan and his wife’s 14-year prison sentences in a corruption case. Khan also had another 10-year sentence for treason overturned this month.

Last week, an Islamabad court rejected a plea to suspend the jail terms of Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, whose marriage was ruled illegal under Islamic law.

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Former President Evo Morales on Sunday accused his political ally-turned-rival President Luis Arce of deceiving Bolivians by staging a “self-coup” last week to earn political points among the electorate, marking a sharp downturn in an already fraught relationship.

Morales was initially among the country’s most powerful voices to say the approximately 200 members of the military who marched on Bolivia’s government palace alongside armored vehicles Wednesday had attempted a “coup d’état.” He called for “all those involved in this riot to be arrested and tried.”

But on Sunday, Morales joined others who contend Arce himself orchestrated the incident in an attempt to win the sympathy of Bolivians at a time when his popularity is extremely low
