I don't see the need if you have the skills.

We have both self taught, and degree team members.

The degree holders don't shine brighter than those without.

Same. I started this career with my only qualifications being that I knew linux computers reasonably well, and I was used to heavy machinery as I grew up on a farm. I have twice the salary of my friends with masters degrees.
