I've only read them in translation, but the Carlos Ruiz Zafon books are excellent, I'd imagine they're better in the original.

La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the Wind).[1] The novel sold 15 million copies and was winner of numerous awards; it was included in the list of the one hundred best books in Spanish in the last twenty-five years, made in 2007 by eighty-one Latin American and Spanish writers and critics.[2]

It doesn't work that way in US Presidential elections.

Dunno yet, that's something Rooki and the other user will have to sort out, but I'm all for improvements!

Oh, it got removed too when I saw the report.

Pleased to say I did not recognize the head of scientology on sight...

My city was considering getting it, but I live less than a mile from a gun range and from Thur. to Sun. in our neighborhood all you hear is gunfire.

So I asked the city, how does Shotspotter tell the difference between gunfire that's expected (gun range) from gunfire that's NOT expected (crime)?

It doesn't. My city declined to buy it. ;)

I really can't remember the last time I said it in school, would have been super early on, 1st or 2nd grade back in the 70s. Definitely not after that.

Only 4/10?

We can probably punp that up if people realize they stop sending mailers to people who already voted.

I thought we all pretty much recognized that was the case when it happened...

Nope, or to the other mod who removed it.

Greetings my fellow obsessive compulsives!

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, you're building a retro gaming corner around this:

Two six-shelf units are inbound.

Do you organize by generation?

  1. Genesis/CD/32X

  2. TurboDUO

  3. Saturn

  4. PS1

  5. Dreamcast

  6. PS2

  7. Xbox

  8. GameCube

  9. Xbox 360

  10. PS3

  11. Wii

  12. Xbox One

Or by company?

  1. Genesis/CD/32X

  2. Saturn

  3. Dreamcast

  4. Xbox

  5. Xbox 360

  6. Xbox One

  7. Turbo Duo

  8. GameCube

  9. Wii

  10. PS1

  11. PS2

  12. PS3

Alternately:

  1. Genesis/CD/32X

  2. Saturn

  3. Dreamcast

  4. Turbo Duo

  5. GameCube

  6. Wii

  7. PS1

  8. PS2

  9. PS3

  10. Xbox

  11. Xbox 360

  12. Xbox One

We've had some trouble recently with posts from aggregator links like Google Amp, MSN, and Yahoo.

We're now requiring links go to the OG source, and not a conduit.

In an example like this, it can give the wrong attribution to the MBFC bot, and can give a more or less reliable rating than the original source, but it also makes it harder to run down duplicates.

So anything not linked to the original source, but is stuck on Google Amp, MSN, Yahoo, etc. will be removed.

FTA:

"The Baxter plant in North Carolina, together with a B. Braun plant in Florida, produces about 85% of the nation's IV fluid supply. The shortage caused by the Baxter plant's temporary closure has forced hospitals to postpone surgeries as a desperate measure to ration supplies for patients in the most critical condition."

"Lamb Weston, the largest producer of french fries in North America and a major supplier to fast-food chains, restaurants and grocery stores, is closing a production plant in Washington state. The company announced last week that it would lay off nearly 400 employees, or 4% of its workforce, and temporarily cut production lines in response to slowing customer demand."

You'll have to go to the 'burbs to get your cheap spooky fix this year!

Been seeing a lot of anti-118 ads lately, specifically talking about the harms to "small business" so I had to look it up myself:

FTA above:

"Measure 118 would slap a 3% tax on a business’s Oregon sales above $25 million, then divvy up the money raised among Oregon’s more than 4 million residents, no matter their age.

An analysis by state revenue officials suggests the policy would reap more than $6.5 billion a year, even though it raises taxes on fewer than 2% of businesses. The measure could then send around $1,600 a year to every Oregonian beginning in 2026 — either via tax credits or direct payments."

So, first, if your business generates more than $25 million in sales ($68,493.15 every day!) - you are NOT a "small business".

2nd, we definitely need reform on business taxes to make sure businesses are paying their fair share.

3rd, I'm not so sure $1,600 direct payments to Oregonians is the best use of those tax dollars. It should be used to reduce our overall tax burden. Maybe increase the standard deduction by $1,600 or some such.

The route is EXTENSIVE. Both sides of the river downtown.

Best bet is to steer clear of anywhere close to this on Sunday:

New web series dropped today, it's like Portlandia but more painfully real.
