I love my AR-15 but I'm certainly not going to be sending out Christmas cards with a picture of me holding it.

That's your problem: you don't love them enough. Each of those humans is in a relationship with the gun they're holding, so it wouldn't be a family photo without them. This is a totally normal, not at all weird, picture to take and share with people!

I've always considered myself weird so it's kind of a bummer that the word is being used to describe the Republicans.
