I had a dual boot going for six weeks this summer, but Mint had a lot of incompatibility issues with my Nvidia setup. I did love Mint, though, just not having to troubleshoot almost every time I booted up my PC.

I'm going to upgrade to a new PC later this year, and when I do, I'm going to do a dedicated Linux install on my old PC with a different distro and use the new one only for gaming.

I had a similar issue with my Mint installation earlier this year as well. I have a 2080Ti, and the default drivers and the drivers I kept getting prompted to install would always cause my resolution to be potato quality. I never did figure out how to squash that.

For me I just figured it was an unfortunate hardware incompatibility, but there are other distros that are specifically built around Nvidia compatibility, so I'll pick one of those when I make the switch.

default is open source nouveau driver, and it's indeed bad. i use proprietary ones and i get them by searching from the software center for "nvidia driver" and just pick the newest one. i have 3060 ti and for a long time mint was the only distro that did not give me any issues. since version 550 i can use other distros too without any problems.

I appreciate that. I’m definitely going to try again soon.
