Dunking on Tankies from a leftist perspective.
A tankie is someone who defends/supports authoritarian or even totalitarian regimes who call themselves "socialist". The term originated from people supporting the 1956 invasion of Hungary by the Soviet Union. Nowadays they are just terminally online, denying genocides, and falling for totalitarian propaganda and calling such regimes "true democracies". remember to censor usernames when necessary.

Militancy runs rampant on Lemmy.
There's never any gray, only black and white.
Perfection is the enemy of good in any discussion on progress.
It's not just on Lemmy or the Fediverse though. It's the same on Reddit or YT too, or when you look at what people demonstrate for outside nowadays.
I hear you, and agree it happens there too, but I think Lemmy is particularly guilty. The insular nature of federation and the origin of Lemmy in the first place seems to attract lots of very zealous folks.
