Actually you can but someone on private land if you fill out the paperwork (USA) and get the ground scanned and flagged so you don't break something, like water or electricity. It's not even that uncommon in the country.

I dunno about the tax thing, sounds sus.

I did some digging (hah), but it seems the laws vary from state to state and it can get kinda complicated. Generally you only qualify for the exemption if the property is used exclusively for the internment of dead bodies.

Interesting. I think zoning must have a lot to do with it. I wonder how many cities have ordinances against burying people in city limits. Rural, sure; but it would surprise me if townships allowed on-premise burials.
