Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

Giuseppe "Pino" Pinelli (1928 - 1969) was an Italian railroad worker and anarchist who fell to his death on this day in 1969 while being detained by Italian police. His death became the subject of the play "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" by Dario Fo.

Pinelli was a member of the Milan-based anarchist association named "Ponte della Ghisolfa", and was also the secretary of the Italian branch of the Anarchist Black Cross. He organized young anarchists in the "Gioventu Libertaria" (Libertarian Youth) in 1962 and helped found the "Sacco and Vanzetti anarchist association" in 1965.

A few days before Pinelli's death, Italian fascists from the "Ordine Nuovo" orchestrated a bombing campaign in Milan; one bomb in Piazza Fontana killed 17 people and injured 88. The bombing was blamed on Italian anarchists, and Pinelli was detained along with many other leftists, including Pietro Valpreda, who was falsely convicted and served eighteen years in prison.

Just before midnight on December 15th, 1969, Pinelli fell to his death from a fourth floor window of the Milan police station. Three police officers interrogating Pinelli, including Commissioner Luigi Calabresi, were put under investigation in 1971 for his death, but legal proceedings concluded it was due to accidental causes.

Calabresi was later gunned down at his home in 1972, for which left-wing journalist Adriano Sofri was convicted in 1997.

had a discussion with my wife about if wild figs are vegan. so if you don't know, wild figs are basically inside out flowers turned into a bulb and a mutualistic species of wasp crawls up in there to lay their eggs and dies in there. the newborns then crawl out, get covered in pollen, mate, and go to a new flower. commercial figs basically never use this method and just have artificial pollenation as it's far more consistent

like, see ofc wild figs you are eating a dead wasp in there that gets almost entirely disolved by the fig, but it's not like the wasp suffering or being used in an exploitative way is a part of the product. the wasp already lived the whole lifecycle and did it's thing, no less than if a plant consumed the nutrients of a decayed animal. and the new wasp is gone before the fig ripens as they tend to melt whatever is in there with digestive enzymes on their end of the mutualism, so you're very rarely gonna be eating a wasp larve in a fig.

anyways, figs and fig wasps are neat. pretty much every cultivar of figs has their own unique species of fig wasp

If they are not vegan nothing is. It's that lion king shit. If anything dies near a plant It will eventually absorb it's nutrients. Is using cow poop for fertilizer vegan? It is an animal product. However you couldn't argue that they wanted it. Rabbits maybe, they like to eat that poop. If those aren't vegan than water isn't vegan as it was once part of an animals body. Every cup of water you drink has a few molecules that were once part of a dinosaur according to some statistics I saw.

Aristotle also thought that figs just spontaneously created wasps, like a fuckin minecraft spawner

Spontaneous generation is one of the wildest and also longest lasting notions in science/natural philosophy. It wasn't disproven until 1668.

I learned about spontaneous generation and spontaneous combustion at about the same time, and it was really funny which one turned out to be real
