Alright everyone, let’s get this party started. The title asks the question pretty well. What is the main use of your Linux install? Is it gaming, programming, just to dump windows etc…

Let’s have some fun everyone.

So, my work had OpenStack, and I started reading about that, and I was like, "I want that! Just, VMs on tap, try out any server software, abstracted storage. Cool."

I spent, like, two years trying to get a simple three machine OpenStack working.

Proxmox? Got 'em all working in less than an afternoon.

That said, I'm still figuring out the quirks. But if you have a spare old box kicking around, it's actually easier to set up Proxmox and then try the Turnkey containers for this and that then actually installing whole bare metal servers. Serious fun.

Guess I’ll have to try it. Been talking to the wife about making a tower a dedicated home server and maybe even opening it up to the net. But I won’t do that until it is properly locked down for wide open internet access. If at all.
