Hi All,

Just a heads up that at 12 noon tomorrow (about 16 hours from now) the site will temporarily be offline for a short period while we perform some maintenance and upgrade the performance of the server.

We'll keep the downtime as brief as possible, and you can keep an eye on status.lemmy.zip to see the progress.

We'll make another post when the updates are completed.

Awesome! Does that have any implications on (required) funding?

At the new server cost of about £16.20ish a month, plus image hosting cost of about £4, for a total of about £20.20 per month, we have roughly 10 months worth of funding, assuming we didn't get any more donations.

Thankfully we have some really kind, generous donators (who I can't thank enough still, but we are looking into ways to say thanks better!) and if these donations continue we'll still be able to build up a reserve going forwards.

I'm hoping some of the updates to the services that support lemmy will also help us to reduce costs with better ways of doing things (like cutting out transaction fees on images) which will help quite a bit too.
