Thai food in Australia is so often incredibly watered down and bland.
And in Thailand it's just called 'food'
Thai food in Thailand is miles apart in terms of flavor. And that's true of all types of food, not just Thai.
I've had a few massamans in the city which stack up to those I had in Thailand
I reckon there's some great places in the city in Melbourne. Also Sydney had 6 she amazing Thai food.
You need to find the right places, most of it is the homogeneous bland variety of takeaway that non migrant middle class Australia gets when they cheerfully say "ooh we're having Thai tonight". Just like sushi, 90% of the time it's nothing like the real thing. Or Indian food being the same northern Indian curries recycled, and always with the butter chicken.
